Subject: Fox (and other animals) by AM, real fur based on poser hair?

I've got a question on the Fox by AM. Does this Fox have real hair based on the poser hair room so that the fur only can be used in Poser? I want to pose it in Poser and open it in Vue, but I'm wondering if the fur will be in Vue then as well. Want to make sure before I buy it :-)

How about other animals Alessandro did, like the wolf, cheetah and bear and so on, would it be the same for them?

Thanks, done that already, but the forums are very often a lot quicker to get a good reply :-) Want to use the CyberMonday coupon if possible on it.

Since his Sabretooth works in Studio 3, I suspect it's geometry rather than dynamic hair, but I could be mistaken...

I have the fox.  It is Poser dynamic hair, and it looks great.

At least some versions of Vue will import Poser dynamic hair, but it doesn't look quite the same.

I'll try it in Vue if you can wait a couple of hours.  (It's almost dinner time here.)

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 01 December 2013 at 5:14 PM

On closer examination...it's not dynamic hair.  It looks like it, and I thought it was, but I think it's a conforming fur coat, probably that fibermesh stuff.  It's quite the memory hog.

I'll see how it works in Vue...

Thanks everyone. Alessandro replied to my sitemail very quickly, he was online so that was great. It should work in Vue also most of them are meshes (except for his bears), so I've got a few of the animals and let you all know how it went with rendering in Vue :-)

Thanks for the offer randym77, cool, but just enjoy your dinner and use the rendering time for something else :-)

It's a HUGE memory hog.  I hope you have a good computer.

The materials did not import correctly for me.  Everything came in black and white.  Though it's pretty common to have to adjust the materials when importing Poser objects into Vue.

My rendering machine is pretty good. I'll try it on my laptop, starting Vue now and if that doesn't work, I'm going to do it tomorrow on my pc.

I think it's great that you can remove the fur. That way if I'm not using them for close up renders, it should be a lot faster and allowing me to use more of them in a scene.

I'd be curious to know how well it transfers in Vue for certain!

Little note before I do start.... I did all of this on my laptop, i5 2450m (2.5Ghz 2cores/4threads) with 6gb of RAM, Windows7, Vue 11 Complete. My main computer is an i7 3770 with lots more memory and so on, so that should give quite a difference.

Tried the Fox in Poser first, it opened all black and white in the preview for me, but when rendered it looks great :-) Opened the Poser scene in Vue, all black and white fox, in the preview as well as in the renders. Did the same with the Cheetah and it was fine. So, I went back to Poser, looked at the materials and noticed that for the body and the fur the material node is only plugged into the Alternative Diffuse. I plugged the nodes into Diffuse Color as well and now it shows up in the Poser preview, as well as in Vue. One problem fixed :-) The Coyote has the same problem, but it can be fixed the same way as well.

Using the Fox in Poser on my laptop works fine Poser responds well. In Vue it's a different matter, Vue becomes very slow to work with. So, I changed some of my display settings and it allow as fine again, working responsive.

When rendering, the fur shows up way to dark imo, so I disabled casting shadows for the fur, that looks much better and renders a bit faster also. But I let you all decide this from the images. I've rendered them quickly, final settings, not using great lights or anything, just all set for fast rendering. Looks nice. Yes, the Poser one may look slightly nicer, but that may be a matter of tweaking some more. Some of the areas of the fur show black tips, I'm going to see if I can find a solution for that as well.

Different angle, here you can see the black tips of the fur more prominent.

On this one, the fur is casting shadow, does not look too good I would say.

I guess it is a matter of finding the right adjustment in Vue. Anything I import form Poser always requires material adjustment to look right. I know some people claim otherwise, but I find I adjust everything, from hair to skin to clothing to props.

It's looking good so far.

Well, I've been working more on the Fox, but I cannot seem to get rid of the black tips and other oddities in the fur. I'm stuck and asked AM for help on it. I've even tried to edit the textures and materials, but to no avail. If I can't get rid of the weirdness in the fur, then I can't use the Fox for closer up renders and it's of no use to me. I've already got a great fox for far off renders, needed one for close ups. I'm not going to spent more hours working on it for now, other things demand my attention.
