Subject: how do I do a smart prop?

Can I please get some help in learning how to make a prop a smart prop? It has been a while since I have done one, and I don't remember how to do them.

Make sure it is parented and save it, but DO NOT use select subset.  It should then ask

People that know everything by definition can not learn anything

how do I get the object that I am doing as a smart prop to be posed correctly with the person?

When I'm saving dumb props (that is, not-smart props) in order to make them smart, I place the prop in the correct position and parent to the body part closest to that (or that part that is supposed to move with the prop). For weapons, that's usually the hand. For hats, the head. For prop shoes, the feet. And so on.

After that, it's up to me to make the pose adjustments to my figure. So I need to either use a hand pose or the hand control morphs in the figure to get it to grip a weapon. I may have to adjust a hat or shoes to match the pose my character is in.

I don't know if there's a better way. If there is, I'd be interested in learning about it.

Remember that a smart prop is basically a regular prop that has been saved while parented to another figure. For instance, Rex holding a gun.   So, pose everything the way you want it, then save the pose of Rex holding the gun. Next make sure the prop (in this case, the gun) is parented to Rex's hand or in it's holster, then save that as a prop.

Then the next time you load rex and want him to hold a gun, load Rex, pose Rex, then load the gun.
