I just found out from another member that a long-time member has passed. 

Punaguy (Dave Teves) was an amazing photographer and good friend. 

He will be missed. 

Dave always had a great eye and something nice to comment on others pictures. He will be missed..... Aloha Dave, RIP.

Kort - I vaguely remembered seeing some of his photos in the past, but when I clicked on the link you provided, I was kind of blown away by how amazing his work is & wonder why I didn't pay more attention to it. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Dave was a welcome presence at Renderosity. Not only did he post some amazing photos of his native Hawaii, but he was kind and always had posted friendly and constructive comments. His recent night photography work is truly inspiring but he will probably be best remembered for his wave/ocean photos.

Dave got me started in photography in 2004 or about.  It started out that he needed someone to watch his back and expensive camera equipment while he took pictures in Hilo town at nights.   He said to bring along a camera so I borrowed my sons little canon point and shoot.  I never thought photography could be fun as in the past, we had those hold to your waist cameras...then you had to develop them.  But digital?   Wow!  Then Dave found Renderosity.  We were hooked!   Where could anyone go wrong, post one picture for free every day and have people to critique your post and help you out.   This being said, we went out to different areas and places of the island to get pictures....Mauna Kea, Waipio Valley, Hula Dances at the Volcano, Lava fields, Rodeo's and Nature.  Every now and then, Dave, Stella and I would go out on a photo shoot.  Dave loved the ocean as he was a surfer in his younger days.   Most every morning, you would find him at his favorite spot at the ocean taking pictures...  He just recently had his camera over hauled as it had a lot of corrosion from the salt air and spray.  Dave had an eye for photography, he saw something that I couldn't....  He had his pictures on display at some restaurant and also entered contest...   He had a lot of knowledge in photography but never stopped studying, always wanted to advance himself.

Dave was also a fine musician and singer.  He had a group called “Two Guys From Puna”.   He would always call/email me to support them when they played.   Incredible smooth voice.   They had a lot of gigs and parties to play as well as dance night clubs....  Eventually, he slowed down on the entertainment world and stuck with photography.   He still has his guitar on a stand next to his computer and calls it his girl friend... 

Dave loved to fish.   He was very patient for that fish...  He and the whole family went to Alaska on a fishing trip and he came back with several coolers of black cod and a bunch of other stuff...  He gave me a cooler full of fish......thanks Dave

Dave went out of his way to help others.   He was just a call away.   Even after retirement from the post office, he would help a friend Roberta to what ever she needed at Pahoa post office where she was postmaster.   All for free...  He also helped her find a home for her family.   She now has a home and now is Post Master of Hilo and she so much wanted to celebrate all this with Dave.....because he was the key of everything and to her success.  

Dave loved his family and wanted to make sure everything went smoothly in case something came up such as him being in the hospital.   He made a living trust and power of attorney to his son and daughter ....Jon and Kaikea to handle things when he couldn’t.   Seeing Jon and Kaikea along side their father, they did everything they could as Dave wanted.   Kaikea and Jon always made a party for their father....  Dave says they got their act together in anything they do.   There is another son Garner who is in the mainland and Dave was proud of him.  

I’d just thought I’d share as Dave was a good, kind person.   He had no wrong in him....  He will be missed.    Dave’s last website he was working on is http://www.kanaesphotography.com/

As Errol said, we knew him very well.  We all worked at the post office for years together.  Took pictures together at times and laughed a lot.  I was glad I got to see him several times before he left us.  I always wished I could take pictures even half as good as Dave.  Practice, practice, practice.  He will be missed a lot.  Heaven has gained another Angel.

Thanks, Errol, for sharing a little of Dave outside Renderosity. I knew you two were close, but did not realize that he got you into photography. It's always sad to lose a member of our Renderosity family and I'm glad he left a lagacy of beautiful photography for us to enjoy. Aloha

Oh no - this is dreadful news!

Thank you Errol, Kort and all the others for your eulogy to this amazing photographer and friend.

I was thinking I might ask folks to post a link to their favorite image from Dave, but looking through his gallery, I realize that there is no way I could choose only one. Or even 5. 10 maybe, hah. He had a gift, and a great eye. I guess that steamed from his good and kind soul. Thanks for the additional commentary Errol, I appreciate knowing it.

Some of the photo shoots and trips we did, he looked for something special while I looked for anything in sight.  But some times there is a story behind the pictures such as his post Stream for Sharky http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1262788&user_id=287364&page=16&member&np   We laugh so hard that it hurt just to look at him.   It took a while to settle down before going back up that steep hill in Waipio Valley.  There was no room for mistakes on that road.
