Subject: Upgrading questions

I've been hearing good things about Vue 2014 so this weekend I think I'll take advantage of the Summer Sale and upgraded from Vue 10 Studio to Vue 2014 Studio. I'll also uprade my Painter module. I have a question about transferring content. Should I just copy my Vue 10 content folder to the 2014 folder and choose don't overwrite, or should I redownload the Cornecopia content in 2014 format?  I've never understood exactly how that works. Or is it OK to copy some content like objects, but redownload other things like plants? I could really use some advice.

One other question regarding product subscriptions. I know that I have 30 days to decide whether to do it. I'm thinking that unless there will be some major upgrade or new features I'm better off just to save my money and wait a year or two before upgrading.  Does anyone have any knowledge about what Vue 2015 or whatever they'll call it will include? I'd like to hear your thoughts of upgrading yearly vs. skipping a year or two.

During the Vue 2014 install, the installer should see your old content library and it will ask you if you want to use it in Vue 2014.   Answer yes.

I've never attempted to update my content.  I probably should.  I'll let a wiser Vue "old hand" advise on that.

The current version is 2014.5, and if you network render (sure speeds rendering up!), be aware that networking functions in 2014 but fails for some scenes in 2014.5

I don't know what factor(s) trigger the 2014.5 network rendering failure.

When I installed a newer version, Vue for some reason didn't see my library. I didn't bother with download evertyhting again, but just copied my old stuff to the new version. It works fine for me, just choose no when it wants to overwrite something, as you already suggested yourself.

We don't know what Vue 2015 will have except for what's in 2014.5. To me it seems a lot of TPF related again and there are improvements for indoor lighting. Nothing that interests me personally so far. I don't have subscription myself, didn't go for that. I've gone from Vue 6 to Vue 10 to Vue 2014. For me E-On's new version don't offer enough to keep on buying each new version. I really don't see the point of buying each new release, as most of them aren't even worth what they're asking for at all. Even going from Vue 10 to 2014 feels like just a little step up, 2014 almost feels like it's the next release after 10, but still quite not.

I would skip and to be very honest I don't know why people keep on upgrading each year if E-On offers them so little.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

The only stuff you would ever need to redownload is locked (copy protected) items. and that only if your new license doesn't recognize them, but normally when you install, as

seachnasaigh mentioned, the installer will ask if you want your previously installed content recognized. You can copy over your old folders, or leave them where they are and just link to them in the preferences.

Thanks for the advice! Like aeilkema  the installer did not ask me about my previous content so I plan to copy it over. Will redownload those items locked to my license.
