I've never entered this, but I'm wondering how can anyone just being an amateur go up against all of these skilled artisted that most likely will enter. Somehow it doesn't seem fair that everyone is thrown into one huge category, various categories might be better. Sure that poses different problems, who goes into which category :)
Well, let me think about this, it's fun entering a contest, but knowing what I'm up against takes away some of the fun.

Food for thought.....

By the way.... why only 3 winners? Wouldn't it be much more interesting and rewarding if those prizes would be divided over more people? Why make the winning chance so slim and give one winner such a huge amount?
Well enough to think about :) I may still give it a try, even though I know I've got some huge disadvantages when it comes to expertise and hardware. Yes, hardware us a huge breaking point in such a competition as well. However much I would like it, I canot pump out the scenes others can do. I have to make choices, my hardware is limited and upgrading would mean I need completely new hardware that I can't afford. So, with my limited 6Gb, I'm up against someone with 32Gb or more. Everyone owning Vue knows what that means in a building and rendering a Vue scene!

I have hardware, but can't bring it to bear; e-on broke HyperVue with the 2014.5 update. :glare:
Aeilkema, with 6GB, you have triple channel memory? DDR3? Is it PC3-12800? How many RAM slots?
What processor model (ex: core i7-930)? What CPU socket - LGA1366?
Can you find what the max memory is for your motherboard, main chipset, and processor combination? (Speccy, free from Piriform.org would give you this info).
Poser 12, in feet.
OSes: Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64
Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5
i7? Nah.... i5, 6Gb is the max, it's a laptop :) I work on it, since I can't sit too long and with it I can lay down.
I had some luck last week and did get someone else's laptop. It's an i7 2.0Ghz, 4 cores, 8 threads with 8Gb of RAM, that's the max.

Yes, they are. My previous HP Pavilion was quite limited. The i5 also only 2 cores and for working with Vue it was kind of slow but no choice. Someone got rid of his HP, it's not the newest one, it's a DV7, but it is an improvement. It has 4 cores, 8 threads and I really notice that. The 2 extra Gb's or RAM give me a little more to work with. The graphics card is faster and better then the one in the i5 and has 2Gb of dedicated memory. Overal the 'new' laptop is a nice improvement over the old, but compared to what most Vue user have, it's still lacking. I'm happy with the huge step up though!
Oh, almost forgot, it has a 17" screen, instead of 15" on my previous one. More space to work in :)
