Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 09 11:21 pm)
Like the video.
As far as characters -- I'd like to see older women, with more character in their faces, and other ethnicities -- tho these days I am mostly taking stock figures and changing them to suit me.

Pretty white girls that all look like they're from the same family tree with the same makeup options and eye colors are a dime a dozen. I've began sticking with characters from vendors like Maddelirium. Love those bonus textures.

I know a lot of women think thick eyebrows are "gross", but I'm always attracted to that look so that's what I chose as the feature most attractive to me.
BTW, glad you like the video, I had a feeling you might. Not related to the topic but you might like this one of his as well. He's very creative and obsessive over how his music and videos are done. I think anyone can appreciate the visuals he does (see attached), but you need a nice set of headphones to really appreciate his finesse with sound, he's damn good!
Always weird but killer-cool:

And you're another one, post a pic of what you want to see so that vendors get to see what people like. Even for fantasy, post the nearest-looking human. No point saying what features you're bored with, show them what you do like, just like I did. If we post pictures there's going to be times when a vendor thinks, ah, never thought of doing that - I'll try that look for a change. Post something typical of a facial feature you find attractive but you feel is lacking from the Poser Characters.
Pictures speak more than words ever could
I know there are a few really good asian characters in the MP, but they are mostly Chinese or Japanese. Miki 4 is actually supposed to be a mix...
I want to see one I can identify as Filipina. I have been in Asia for the last 30 years and I can tell the difference in the ethnicity of most Asian people. There are no Asian males or females that look Filipino in the market...
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
Well I'm glad someone has posted an image apart from me, I was expecting to come back to this thread today and see hundreds of images with people actually showing vendors what they want!
Cheers Rokket, yup, the Asian characters mostly look Japanese or Korean to me, with a few Chinese here and there - but I've never seen a Filipino character for Poser, or if I have, I haven't realised it was a Filipino character.
Okay, it's not a racial thing, but...I would really LOVE to see a no-brows head in character packs. That or a special mask for changing the eyebrow COLOR. I am pretty tired of cloning eyebrows out.
I invariably end up doing it on EVERY SINGLE SKIN I USE. Doesn't matter what race skin it is, and I have black, asian, latin, caucasian skins. I need more versatility in eyebrows than character artists are apparently willing to give me. Pout.
花 | 美 | 花美 | 花火
...It's a pun.
Pumeco the vendors have given you all the content you need to easily make that Girl you posted with V4Morphs ++ and the "Vanilla Sky" Texture set from Syyd Raven over at RDNA
at any Rate I am SOOOO with you on the Thick, Dark Eyebrow Thing.
**
@Hana-Hanabi**
Well here's something that might shock you, I actually like that look where there are no eyebrows at all and you couldn't get more opposite to thick-black eyebrows than that!
Yeah I know, weird, but still, I don't think I've seen a Poser Figure without eyebrows either!
**@Wolf
Post a bloody pic then, man, what is wrong with you all?
**It's like with Don who would like to see more older women with character, but without a pic it could mean saggy or MILF, and there's heck of a lot between them!
**
**Really cool to know you share my fetish for the brows, but post something to show it. Find a pic of a hottie with thick eyebrows and post it for vendors to see! I mean wow, including David that makes three of us already, so maybe this thick eyebrow fetish isn't so unusual, it's a good indicator that maybe more vendors should try it.
**@David
They always make me smile as well, but I posted a beutiful example of why that is
**
I've got a really unusual looking girl to post but I'm not going to until more of you post examples.** ** There's only Rokket has listened and I bet that was just to show his beutiful wife off (just a guess it's his wifey).**
**
Part of the problem is the 'retiring' of Merchant Resource bases from the store and how difficult they are to find in the new store software. And I DO mean, difficult to find. I have to put them on my wishlist when I run across them in a store search or I might not be able to find them again. And I personally own 3 Merchant Resource bases that are now gone from the store. Merchant Resource Base skins should never be retired from the store. At least that's my opinion.

No, she's not my wife. Close to it though. My wife won't allow me to post pics of her on the internet, so I found something in the ballpark.
And believe it or not, the woman I posted in the pic above is over 40...

That is something I always struggle with, I want my characters to be older than the norm for Poser females, or should I say the percieved norm looking at Poser Galleries. Most of my renders are illustrations for Sci-Fi stories so what would a forty year old woman look like in 100 years time?
Just looking back at my father's generation is enough to see that, in general people of a set age look younger today than the did in his generation.
I also love some of the characters that show great old age so they can be portrayed in fantasy renders as an elderly mage and the like.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Thanks for posting an image Zaarin, and yup, love Keira's look as well, and wow, so that's four of us like the thick-black brow look but not a single person has said they prefer the pencil-thin look (which most of the vendors seem to be using). I was just reading the comments for the video of the girl in the first post, seeing if I could find out who she is.
There's some obsessive people on YouTube, I think those eyebrows can do epic things to a mans mind, check out these comments:*
"I love that first girl of this video Wwwwwwoooooooowwwww how cute and lovely is she. If i meet her i will take billion kisses of her lips and eyes"*
I know that one would be considered 'sweet' by YouTube standards, but check this one out:
"Is there anybody who provide me proper information about this first video girl I am in love with her without her i will shot myself"
You read stuff like that and can't help but think women should forget beauty magazines with all those ads trying to sell beauty cream, and instead, look into growing a thicker brow, I think it'll have more impact than any cream you ever used - you heard it here first - and didn't even need to buy a beauty magazine!

I always thought Michelle Malkin was very pretty. I was shocked when I learned she was old enough to be my mother. :P On the other hand, Asian women don't seem to age as quickly as Europeans. I saw a recent picture of Rosalind Chao (Korean; Keiko O'Brien from Star Trek: TNG and DS9) and she's hardly aged a day. On the other hand, I saw a recent picture of Terry Ferrell (Jadzia Dax, DS9--aka the most beautiful woman ever) and she's still gorgeous--even though she is the same age as my mother. O_O
And since you wanted pictures...
@Zaarin
It's them eyebrows again!
@All
Ok, here's the unusual girl I mentioned, no CG, she really looks like that. Don't know who she is, I just know her as the "Sony Alien Girl", she's someone they used for some creepy ad campaign. She seems very confident with her looks, which is cool really because when you think about it, how cool must it be to resemble an alien?
She can honeslty claim to be utterly unique. Anyway, just an unusual look I thought I'd put out there. I bet the Poser vendors haven't done a real humanoid alien look yet, and after listening to the clip I have to wonder, is she a typical Scottish girl?
Can I go to Scotland and get one?
Ah well, click to see video of a real Alien Girl
Hello pumeco,
thank you for sharing this. Realy unusual!
However (if I may): I doubt that this is a human.
In fact, I rather believe that this is a Poser character... and the hair looks so bloody close to "Twin Fair Hair", with bangs made invisible...
Just morph the hair's parting a tad downwards to get that "broad" bald parting: The resemblance is striking.
Then you only have to scale the head xScale, and do some extreme morphing: Voilà!
I may be wrong (really hard to tell in such an extreme example!). If I should be right, it at least proves what can be done with V4 (which I believe is the base figure)
If I should be wrong, please just ignore my post :)
Regards
Peter
LMAO, both of you, seriously that's how she is, I'm not teasing, she's for real.
It's part of a creepy bunch of ads Sony commissioned for their PlayStation, I even read that some were so creepy they were banned and never got aired. Here's another one from their creepy ad campaign, but of course this one is CG:
Click for another creepy PlayStation Ad
I don't know if it ever got aired on TV, but if it did, I'm guessing if gave a lot of kids nightmares come Christmas!
Nice one, Sony :woot:

Pumeco, if you don't know what you're talking about it's better to shut up. Her name is Fiona McLaine (Maclean?) and she does not look like that in real life.

BTW, did anyone notice what had happened to the timecode by the end of the video?
It had changed into PlayStation Controller code!
Ah well, eye types for me tomorrow I think, I have some eyes that are quite amazing although I'll have to stick em all on to one image because we can't do multiple attachments here.
Can't be bothered to assemble a collage of eyes, might as well post them seperate.
First-up the famous Afghan Girl, cause you can't talk about awesome eyes without mentioning her. When you think what absolute power we have in Poser to do absolutely any eyes we want by simply drawing a bitmap, makes me wonder why none are as captivating as this pair.
I'd love to know what she was thinking for her to look at the camera like that. Crazy, wild, like she was ready to kill at the snap of a twig, a bit like the look Roxie gives if you mention a Vicky!
More eyes later.
Anyway, more eyes, this time they belong to a woman from Rajasthan, India. There's actually quite a few photos of this woman because she's become a sort of celebrity with street photographers. I hear you can go up to her in the street, give her money, and she'll pose for your camera!
India is home to millions of women with amazing eyes though, you'd be spoilt for choice if the documentaries and images I've seen are anything to go by and India is one of the places I absolutely am going to see some day!
Perhaps not as "captivating" but I Like this set for P6 jessie from former merchant Shaharra.
these are made from a very good merchant resource kit derived from actual photographs.
All of the hand painted eye maps I see in poser& Daz/genesis look very, very fake to me
so until I see otherwise I have actually exported these eyes in all of the colors provided, as obj files and import and replace them in All of my C4D poser figure renders via a special Merge command.
You just have to creative with your existing content and not depend so much on merchants to create exactly what you want to see.
Quote - When you think what absolute power we have in Poser to do absolutely any eyes we want by simply drawing a bitmap, makes me wonder why none are as captivating as this pair.
The basic reason is that painted eyes simply don't look as good as eyes based on photographs, but only a few vendors take the time to clone out the reflections and specular, especially on dark eyes.
**
@Wolf**
WTF, you're like some sort of Frankenstein doing eye transplant stuff like that, but anyway, I think I prefer the second one of those, just seems to go better.
Regards the Merchant Resources, yup, LatexLuv mentioned that as well but I'm surprised that such things are thin on the ground. I've never actually used one but I assume they're just skin texture resources etc, and if they are, why not just create them from your own skin if necessary?
If people use clone brushes from these resources anyway then it's not really going to matter who or or even what sex it came from. Couldn't you just samle certain parts and change the colouring in postwork to create your own kits?
Same with eyes, you only need one and then all you have to do is recolour it, surely?
@Zaarin
Yup, I hate to see built-in reflections and highlights on Poser products, really bad. I don't get why people do that because the raytracer sees to the highlights and reflections.
BTW, did anyone else get a notification saying that "LouisCross" had posted? Have to ask because it might be R'osity playing up again. If it's like last time, the post is probably visible to everyone else, but I won't see it until tomorrow!
Ah, right, but did you know they still load full size if you click on them?
Wouldn't worry about forum compression if you wanted to post a pic.
Also, if the source image is really large, just make it smaller before uploading it then the maximum filesize is spending less being massive and I think that allowes less compression (could be wrong though).
This is my attempt after following the thread on realistic eye reflection using all of the suggestions from BB and tweaked for personal preference.

Actually many years ago the merchant "Black hearted"
sold a set of excellent hi res smart prop replacement eyes for the abysmal default eyes on the DAZ M2 &V2 figures
so its not that unusual what I am doing with my eye props in C4D.
Agreed on Hair but honestly the "Baked in" reflections
,on well done photo based eyes ,work for me most of the time under most lighting conditions
But still the aforementioned merchant "Shaharra" was kind enough to provide versions of his eye mat poses without the baked in reflections as well, for those who wish to use actual ray traced reflections from their scene environment,

True, they can look okay if your lighting is just right--but that does constrain the lighting you can do. If you set your eye shaders up right (the ones BB posted recently work fantastic) and set up a proper scene--either with a full set off camera or an HDRI--the reflections will be more realistic and non-scene dependent.
Sorry Wolf, have to agree with Zaarin, and personally I would never use anything with baked-in highlights or reflections. There's really only one position it will work in and that's the position the vendor rendered it in. I just just don't see the point in it when the renderer sees to all that stuff.
It's more limiting than anything else.
Hornet, I think the neck looks a bit hefty for a woman, but what mesh is that?
Doesn't look like a Roxie or a Vickie.

The mesh is Vicky, 4.2WM, to be exact. The chracter scaled to a relative five foot nothing but she is still a heroine so I was aiming for a petite but strong character. So I am very much going against the normal V4 render. I have also tried to make her look a little more mature than your average Vicky. Your right though, the neck does look to be a bit heafty, particularly for a woman I must take a closer look. She is a long term WIP for me and has had more face lifts and body modifications than most Hollywood stars.

Good luck with the WIP, and congrats for shaking-off the V look which is easier said than done, I really didn't think it was a V, not in the slightest.
If she's a Heroine though, maybe the neck is ok, I didn't realise she was that figure type. I suppose if she's anywhere between Heroine and Super Heroine it would fit, just don't forget to post the body though :woot:
I've never joined in, but I used to love reading those Super Herione type threads on the DAZ forums. No one ever seems to do that here though (which surprises me), it seems mostly technical stuff and not enough themed art threads - would love to see a Super Heroine themed thread on here. Wasn't that long ago I used to hate to see women with muscles but I got to liking it after seeing those threads. I've always liked to see them drawn, but it wasn't until later I started to like the 3D versions that people were putting out.
Yup, shame there's no such threads here, I'm quite shocked about that considering the fantasy element of the figures and such sold here.
Full length render with a standard height M4 for comparrison.

Looking good, Hornet!
Must admit I was thinking of her more as an Amazon woman in a loincloth from the head only shot
And speaking of Heroes, I wish they'd go back to the more classy stuff. No matter how hard I try, I honeslty can't think of a hero with more class than Condorman! He had an awesome car, clip-on wing attachment, boat, and above all, he had a way with women that would put even James Bond to shame!
You never hear of Condorman, though, he's a true Superhero, great movie as well!
Click for a clip of Condorman doing his women thing - sheer class!

Just wanted to show off a render of my first Poser Character!
Yeah right, ahhh if only that were true. Actually, I thought I'd start a thread where people can just be up-front and post images of the sort of characters they would really like to see in the Poser Marketplace. Never mind whether others might think you're weird, or whether they'll agree with you, just be honest because that's the whole point of the thread, so that vendors can learn what makes your hormones tick enough to actually buy something.
There's a thread discussing the racial aspect of characters and how there's not enough variety, and I agree. Racial difference is probably the single largest thing that attracts you for reasons you can't understand. Different races have notable apects of attractiveness that makes them unique and typical of their race. For example, there are tribes in the Himalayas where the women have the most amazing and extremely captivating eyes that are not seen in any other race of people. There's also somewhere where the women have the strangest snow-white skin and incredibly long thin necks.
One of my own preferences is for women that have thick black eyebrows, a racial characteristic that appears to be notable in Spain, Morocco and others. I'm not aware why I love thick black eyebrows, I just know that I do. The girl in the image attached is typical of the type I mean. To me, her eyebrows alone are an insanely beautiful characteristic, yet it's something I very rarely see in Poser characters.
So what's your "racial hotness" trigger? If you could pick just one thing from any race that attracts you and post a sample of it for potential character development by the vendors here, what would it be? With a bit of luck this thread could be a minefield of information for potential character developers. There's often complaints about the characters not being diverse enough, but that's surely down to a limited insight into racial diversity. There's a lot of extremely beautiful people in the world, so why isn't that getting translated into a characters we would actually pay money for, what's the problem?
Here's a way too short video of the beauty in the screenshot, so I'll go first and use her (typically Spanish I reckon) thick-black eyebrow look as an example of the sort of beauty characteristic I'd personally like to see captured in Poser characters at least once in a while. So you see, while one person might like all those pencil-thin eyebrows on their Poser characters, some of us prefer the opposite, the thicker the better and I don't mind admitting it. To me this girl is just incredibly beautiful, but perhaps she might not have that effect on me if she had regular thin eyebrows.
It's a Racial characteristic you see, and it's something I hardly ever see in my own country. Time to spit it out, what racial features attract you when you see it?
Anyway, click for video of attached girl (Schiller music too)
