Subject: Alternative Preview Renderer for PP 2014

Glen ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2014 at 5:15 PM · edited Mon, 20 January 2025 at 1:17 PM

Hello folks,

I'm wondering if there's an alternative preview renderer for PP 2014? I know we have OpenGL and SreeD options, but I'm using quite a few direct lights and OpenGL only supports eight at a time, making it tricky to really visualise my scene without rendering it.

Failing that (this is a long shot), might it be possible to route the preview through something like a game engine, which could handle more lights, or am I completely clueless here? :/

Thanks,

Glen.

I'm running Win 10 Pro 32GB RAM Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

Try the RayTrace Preview.  I setup a scene with 11 lights and it shows what the result will be.  Not sure of anyother way to do what you want.

Poser 5, 6, 7, 8, Poser Pro 9 (2012), 10 (2014), 11, 12, 13

I find the RayTrace Preview an ideal way to check the lighting.  I find the preview covers and larger snapshot than my camera view and it is not 100% on the lights but it is near enough for most renders.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

If you get the Game Dev upgrade for Poser Pro 2014, you can export as an FBX and load directly into Unity or whatever compatible engine.

Poser 12, in feet.

OSes:  Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64

Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5

Hmmm, I hadn't tried the RayTrace render, thanks, I'll give that a go!

Ooh, of course, the Game Dev stuff, I forgot all about that! Hmmm...

So, I'm planning an extremely ambitious animation that will have to look as lifelike as possible with loads of physics, particle effects, lighting and all sorts of stuff. Would I be able to use my Poser characters (as of yet, only V4 and M4 based) and all of their wardrobes, plus my Poser scenes in a suitable game engine of my choosing (considering Cryengine as one option) with full posability and morphs?

Thanks folks,

Glen.

"So, I'm planning an extremely ambitious animation that will have to look as lifelike as possible with loads of physics, particle effects,"

Poser pro has  a bullet physics engine ,soft body dynamics and an optional Python based ragdoll physic engine. no particle effects though.

Perhaps some one with the optional game Dev add on could advise you on its export capabilities.

Hi. I'm thinking Poser's physics are far too primitive for my needs with the animation. I've dabbled with them, but I really think they're too basic; I'm going to need so much detail. I've been working on the environment alone for three years.

Very interested in the game dev, I just can't afford anything at the moment. :P

Hi I assume you have no intention of trying actually render
your animation in poser!!
understandable as posers render engine is too slow for
for quality animation renders IMHO.

I render in Maxon Cinema4D via a plugin the allows me fully functioning
( Gen4 or lower), poser figures directly in Cinema4D.

There are many options for getting your M4/V4  figures into other rendering environments with wildly varying degrees of figure functionality retention.

I will leave you to decide which option is best for your project & budget

I was originally, but not now, lol! As you say, far too slow. I just got the BSOD yesterday during a render of a bathroom I'd just made... never had a BSOD on this system before, obviously something went very tits up.

I'm thinking I'd like to finish creating all my characters in PP2014 and their outfits too, along with numerous objects, then export this stuff to some place I can use their morphs and rigging for the animation. That some place would preferably be somewhere I can use one or more game engines and create my animation as a machinima.

Thanks,

Glen.
