 Is there a way to make a light into just a single slit of light?

To do what? A beam? A line on the ground? For a single line in a non IDL scene I'd say a gobo type filter would be best (a 'mask' parented to the front of the light). You can attach a simple 2d image direct to the diffuse channel in the materials room and get a repeat pattern if you want that...
