Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 07 11:07 am)
is likely adobe air and adobe flash player. Â apple is protecting you vs. malware that one gets from fake adobe updater linx.
update from adobe and it should work again. Â also allow xprotect updater at all times.
here is scan of latest fake adobe flash player.
you go to adobe and navigate to "update flash player OS X".
can't discuss xprotect outside of mac forum here (if active), but unless you have certain firewall software, xprotect should have background-updated yesterday.
is native OSX virus protection, part of system. Â advanced users can check latest xprotect update via terminal.
ok I downloaded new Flash player from Adobe, Installed it and rebooted system.
Relaunched Poser and get same darn error message.
Possible I was supposed to say YES to also including the Yahoo stuff and other apps in the download?
I don't want to fill my system with junk I never going to use so I said no but the player seemed to install properly just the same. Not understand why still not working.
No, you don't want the Yahoo stuff. :)
The external Library uses Adobe AIR. However, it tells me when I need to update it, but I use Windows...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."when I get blocked update msg in OS X, it goes away after I update adobe flash. Â haven't had xprotect generate
warning for adobe air, but you should try updating air. Â don't recall yahoo stuff, but will check it out. Â here's
what flash player pref screen looks like (at bottom of system prefs):
one other thing to try:
open PP2014 library in safari (separate window) instead of in poser (docked).
I haven't installed the most recent service release for Poser (came to the forums to see if there are any reasons not to), and my Poser library is working fine. But, if you haven't used Poser in months, then apple probably did impose a stop for the older versions. Adobe flash is one two primary sources for malware in OSX, and apple restricts which version of both of those two applications from running when they find vulnerabilities. I'd say it happens 3-4 times a year...or it used to. I think it's gotten better over the last few months.Â
As for yahoo, I have never seen it myself, but I've heard that some of the adobe free installers (like flash or PDF reader) come with "free" software that you "might be interested in". This is stuff that other companies pay adobe to have added to the installer, such as yahoo's search bar. If you can't uncheck any of those, then you probably need to find another installer.Â
Baggins Bill (I think that's his user name...the one you see in the forums) is the one who wrote the library code, and I suspect it was his idea to host a web server within poser and communicate to poser through that. That allowed him to use a much simpler set of tools to develop the library code. So, on the user's end, we got a more sophisticated library system at the cost of some otherwise unnecessary memory and performance bloat. I wish they would drop it in future updates, but, at this point, I'm finding Studio's interface vastly superior, that it probably won't matter to me what's in the next version of Poser.Â
"That allowed him to use a much simpler set of tools to develop the library code."
Nope. If anything, I used a much more sophisticated set of tools and built a very complicated UI.
The Flex-based UI (which does not require/demand Flash - it can use AIR instead - they just did that because they felt it needed to be embedded like the other windows, but it does not) allowed them to build one UI that would run on multiple platforms and not require that Anime Studio would have to also have a library tool written for it in parallel. They wanted one library that could talk to both Poser and AS (and if possible, future apps of their choosing), and they wanted it for very little money. It could have been in Python and still talk over sockets, but the Python graphical list capabilities were (and frankly still are) very primitive. Note that AS was written in Visual Basic and embedding Python in it was deemed out of the question. (My first suggestion to solve both apps was to write the UI in Python and they add a Python interpreter to AS. They said no.)
Since then, they have tried to build a new library UI (using HTML 5 and Javascript) and dump the one I wrote. I have no direct knowledge of why that effort was incomplete and remains unreleased three years after it started, but the (partial) code is there and you can turn it on if you want. You will have a library that is much simpler than the one I wrote, only capable of displaying information in a very limited way.
Anyway - I am truly sick and tired of explaining this. FYI.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
If you want to stop needing Flash:
In Poser Pro - use the external library - no Flash. This is the same sophisticated code, just running in a standalone AIR engine, so it will scale up well. (Better than the embedded one, in fact.)
In Poser 10 and up, follow this link for instructions to switch on the HTML 5 library SM tried to deploy:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2886996&page_number=2#msg4184370
Note: I doubt very much that the HTML version will work right with a million items in your library like the one I wrote does. So if you have a lot of runtimes or a lot of folders or a lot files (take your pick which causes the problems - there are difficulties with each) be aware you may suffer.

Any drawback using the external library and will I stil be able to use multiple Runtime folders? Does this alternative function also work on a Mac?
Addendum:
Just checked poser 2014 pro Preferences and could not find where to change to:Â USE EXTERNAL LIBRARIES. Where is that option toggle located?

It's exactly the same code - so you will lose no functionality and can use multiple runtime folders. It does run on Mac.
Go to menu Edit / General Preferences. Click the LIbrary tab.

Hmmm? I know it has been a while but I tried just now actually....yeah I move REAL slow when it comes to changing things...been using the same damn Adobe plugin since i posted this help request and have had to update the damn thing at least three times since. Got tired of it. So I did what you suggested Bill and I find the Runtime folder(s) when called up make the Poser Set up stage disappear and it reappears when the Runtime window is re-closed. Is this the purpose for the Flash Player to keep the two windows in sight at all times?

These days he is mostly on at SM and then not so much there either.

'Tsokay! I think I figured it out. Duh. Apparently wen you change from one method to the other it resets your tools etc in the window so despite having anchored the Runtime folder tool to my right top screen corner it released it and it went on its merry way.....to the back of morph dials and other tools making it disappear (this was when I finally reinstalled the Flash plugin..AGAIN. Before that it did not wanna show so I gave up and kneeled to Adobe.....which I hate.

Sometime ago I had a problem with poser Pro 2014 giving me an error message that showed up every time i tried accessing the library in the app.
Someone here suggested I download something.....which of course with my dead brain matter I forgot what it was exactly that needed to be downloaded/updated.
I did the update and rebooted the systm and launched poser and vola it worked again.....for a while. But now it is popping up again.
I have not gotten any update or upgrade notices on my system except for Firefox which seems to need upgrading every two weeks of late so not very helpful (though I did upgrade it just in case).
I am working on a MacBook Pro if that helps.
If anyone is familiar with this problem please jump in here and point my gray matter in the right direction since I am unable to use Poser without this update.
thanks
