Subject: OT (I think): The Ignore List

Suucat ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2015 at 2:20 AM · edited Wed, 18 December 2024 at 10:05 AM

Oi, if i have someone in my ignore list, i really want to ignore that person, i don't want to go to a thread and see lots of posts of the person i am ignoring with a "Heads Up! You currently have this user ignored. To view this post you must unignore the user."... like duh... you don't say...

Sorry for the rant.

The ignore feature took a while getting here and only came about after a lot of requests.  I do actually use it and I am glad that it exists but like a lot of things here it could be better.  The 'heads up' annoys me as well, as does the fact that you see most the posts because they are often quoted, although that is a limited problem for me is that I can usually identify the few users I have on ignore in the first sentence.

Just one warning you will probably get some response saying this should be in another forum, such as admin, but you are could be like me and only use the ignore in the Poser forum ( I thing that is where the 'Usual suspects feel they can do the most damage), which would explain why it is here.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

It's probably me again, I think I'm getting on lots of Ignore Lists lately, and I noticed the other day that even my Friend List has started to decline.
Only yesterday I noticed Primorge has removed himself from my list, deleted his avatar, and disappeared ... I mean WTF!

I was only joking about the Chainsaw!

Plus, I don't often send a request myself, but on the occasions I have, lately there's a few have not even been answered or read.  I'm beginning to think Primorge was right, no one around here can stand me (well hardly anyone).  I think I'm going to try some different deodorant next time I go shopping :-P

I'm going to ignore that you said that.

Don't beat yourself up too much.  The Poser forum has seems to be the busiest forum here and it is certainly the one I visit the most and, personal opinion but I think a lot of people have fallen out of love with the Poser forum.   I am not for having anyone banned and not really for any topics being excluded either, if they are Poser related, and that includes DS and Genesis.  I am however in favour of some moderation and a little better control of some of the threads.  Even here I accept that topics will drift that will happen in a community.  Someone summed up my view very well recently and that was 'Genesis is not the answer to every Poser problem and every Poser thread' they were right and some others do have a similar view.

Now I know that statement will probably cause a negative response but I can probably list who will respond even now and most will already be on my ignore list.

Again I stress that I do not want to see anyone banned, but the present form of moderation is having a similar effect in that people are leaving, and in a lot of cases the wrong people.  Quite a few have reappeared at RDNA and other forums but many seem to have left the community altogether which is a real shame.

Finally I will add that none of the above should come as a shock to the powers that be because I have passed on my views on more than one occasion.

I'd rather like to have an "ignore topic" buuton. Like "DS vs Poser" - ignore, "Dawn vs V4" - ignore, "Dawn vs Roxie" - ignore, "bad, bad DAZ and DSON" - ignore. ;)

vilters ( ) posted Tue, 16 June 2015 at 8:13 AM

Ach, the usability of the ignore button.

When someone makes a bold statement, it is sure to pop-up in a quote again. LOL.
And there goes your "ignore".

LONG time ago, a realy LONG time ago, mods and admins should  have stepped in and redirect everybody to their own forums.

Sorry to say, but its to late, most have given up and are gone.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

I agree 100%. Unfortunately a thread like this is an exercise in futility, Renderosity management clearly don't give a shit about the workings of this forum beyond the fact that it's a place to flash a lot of ads and sell some stuff. It's now how many months since the "what needs to be fixed?" thread, and not one of those issues has been addressed.
On the subject of ignore buttons, I think it would be useful if a user could see how many people have him on ignore. I would imagine that the sort of poster who likes to ruffle feathers would be secretly disappointed to know that a number of people choose not to even see what he writes, and it might just lead to a change in forum behaviour.

@Clarkie
Does that mean you like my current deodorant?

@Hornet
Don't get me wrong, I'm not beating myself up over it, doesn't bother me but at the same time it's kinda sad that people do that.  At the end of the day I have my opinions and won't change them, wouldn't matter if my Friend List declined to zero, still won't change my opinions.

I don't think anyone is looking for people to change their opinions, yours or anyone else's. If they are they are they could well be part of the problem.  I don't even think people are against strong opinions it is the the way other peoples opinion are treated that seems to be part of the issue.  Then there is the situation where opinion is dressed up as fact.  Terms like ' I know for a fact that E had discussions with A'  which is about a valid and provable as me saying "I know for a fact that Eve told Adam all about the consequences of eating the apple but he still did it' so it is all Adam's fault. I know opinions are not against the TOS but I don't accept that nothing can be done.  One recent intervention here was to state that the argument being presented was now 5 years old and could the thread stay on topic.  I thought it was a good intervention, just a few pages too late and after some people got upset and left.   Whatever the rights and wrongs of it the thread drift caused the loss of another member and no one appears to care, it was just another gone.

One point I did make to the 'powers that be' is that my spend here at Rendo was regularly $200 - $300  a month, so far this month (and we are half way through) is around $54 and the only reason it is that high is I am mopping up the last of my wish list.  Those that have closed their account won't be spending any money and lots of those that do not visit here as often will probably spend less.

OK I accept that the impact on Rendo is small and maybe not seen as a concern and in that respect I agree with obm890, no one does seem to care and I think the days of the Poser forum here are numbered.  Some of users will/have moved on to a forum where they clearly do care but I still think the present situation is a shame and a loss to 3D artists in general, irrespective of if you use Daz or Poser or what figure you use.

Please know I forwarded this info to the staff. They asked me to pass along there is a suggestion forum. Posts like this will more than likely not get seen if placed in the wrong forum. The staff doesn't visit the Poser forums for 'suggestions' and or 'site bugs'. I am going to move the thread to the appropriate forum. I do hope your suggestion does get looked at.

once, you ignore 'em, just ignore the "heads up" msg.

I'd like BWS to add feature to ignore entire threads in poserforum that don't involve how to use poser, or to move them somewhere else.

oops, you moved it whilst I was typing!  thanx for doing that.

maybe all OT threads could be moved here, as it would remove the rancourous elements from poserforum.

Except that I have reported threads added my concerns in the community forum and more recently have used emails.  OK the emails were so recent that I would not expect them to have an impact but all the rest were a waste of time. I am sorry I do not believe that the powers that be are not aware there is an issue going back weeks to when members were asking how to cancel their accounts had a thread moved.  Not only that, the complaints about how the web site works, or more accurately, doesn't work, goes back even further.

We have heard more than once that the information has been passed on and, I have no reason to doubt this is not the case, it is just that very little appears to happen once the information is passed on.

While that has been going on I have noticed more than a dozen  members that used to post on a regular basis here have not been seen for a long while.  They have either left of have moved to lurk mode and they are the people I have just missed, I have not really been counting so I guess there is even more.

The only real development I have seen is the New Users Help Forum.  I read the 'Read before posting instructions', and I have to say that the mission statement about building a thriving community suggests that some people have not looked at ANY forum here for months.  I also question the reason for the forum, is it because any New Poser user posting in the Poser forum would soon realise it is not a very hospitable place and never come back.

I remember a time when new users were helped and encouraged in the Poser forum why do they now need a separate forum.  What policies will be applied in the new forum that are not being applied in the existing Poser forum.  Cynics would say the intention is to apply the TOS in the new forum and forget the TOS in the older forum.

Of course all of this is way too late anyway because a good few of the people that used to help have closed their account and moved on.  Of course that could just be my opinion but fact is some of them are still helping people but over at RDNA.  Don't believe me?  Management here can check for themselves, they may just learn something, dang sorry I will have to leave it there another pig has just flown in my bedroom window.

Thank you for everyone's opinions. I'll make sure to bring this up to staff.

Thanks!
