Which OS? In Linux at least, my plugins are saved to my home folder as opposed to the main install folder so upgrading/overwriting that is no dramas: upon loading the newest version, I just click "Keep Previous Settings" or something like that and EVERYTHING is preserved. Would think Windows and Mac would have similar behaviour.

As Robyn has described is the same thing I do and I am on a Windows 7 machine so when I install add-ons and moved to a new release using the keep Previous settings when first started a new release works like a charm. But be aware that sometimes some add-ons will need updating as well since some third party add-ons do make revisions for new releases.

You will see it when you first start up a new release in Blender's splash screen

Glad it worked for you it has been the easiest way to keep your add-ons in sync with the previous version. One thing I do highly recommend and advise if you are not already doing it is backing up C:UsersYour UsernameAppDataRoamingBlender FoundationBlender Folder just recently got a windows bug that corrupted my Blender folder to name one of a few that got ruined but thank god I had the habit of backing up that folder because all my configurations and many of my preferences were gone but restored from my back up and was like nothing ever happened. So I strongly if you are on a windows based machine and have spent allot of time and effort into customizing your blender your way back up back up you will not regret it lol

Hi all :)
With the release of 2.75 imminent, I would appreciate some advice on keeping my unofficial plugins from Github when installing the update. When I installed 2.74, those plugins were lost and I had to search for them in my downloads to re-install and I'd like to avoid that.
