Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 01 5:26 pm)
similar question asked at rdna. Mac user had runtime on C:drive, which is big problem in re: permissions, file directory and finder.
In OS X, PP2012 default install places both Poser Pro 2012 folder and Poser Pro 2012 Content folder in Applications folder, which violates protocol but which works anyway. PP2014 default install places Poser Pro 2014 folder in Applications folder and Poser Pro 2014 Content folder in Users/Shared folder.
whilst I didn't reply to rdna thread to avoid argument, you can add as many runtimes as you like, each enclosed in folder with distinct name, to top level of Poser Pro 2012 Content folder. once you make big directory change like this, you repair directory and repair permissions from other start-up disc. in yosemite you do this by restart, wait for bong, then hold down cmd-R. no external drive needed. you set poser for deep search.
Hi Nancy,
thank you for the reply, i have tried what you suggested me, repearing permissions and directory, but the problem is still there, the library is not able to find my objects.
It's possible that the library is too heavy? the main runtime of PP 2012 is basically the one of that i've just installed, there is nothing more, my second runtime is of 45gb.
I don't know if it could be a solution to split it in various runtimes, like four of 10 gb.
my solution was to split it into ~80 other runtimes, totalling ~8 GB, which allows poser to find 'em if they're in top level of Poser Pro 2012 Content folder.
my Poser Pro 2012 Content/Runtime (you add downloads to this if you want) is ~ 6 GB.
my Poser Pro 2012/Runtime, to which I only add python scripts, is ~1 GB.
hence if you added 45 GB to Poser Pro 2012/Runtime, it might fail. if you added 45 GB to Poser Pro 2012 Content/Runtime, it might also fail, but it should work.
I split 'em up based on old habits, where OS X would overwrite folders instead of merging them, but PhilC et al. wrote merging scripts to use when unzipping runtimes. also daz install manager merges 'em properly, but installs content for PP2012 in correct place (shared). that's another ~6 GB, so I only got approx. 21 GB in toto. one thing that never worked well for me was trying to add runtimes from other discs. poser would forget where they were. so I quit doing that. I dunno if it's a bug or a feature.
Hi Nancy, thank you for the tips about how to menage the libraries! In the mneantime, doing various tests, i have found the REAL problem of my library:
Basically it doesn't read the names of the folders. For example, if i want to see the combat poses, inside the foler "combat", and in the field i search for "combat", nothing appear. But if inside that combat folder there is a file named 001, and if i search "001", i find it.
I were used that if on my PC i was searching for a combat pose, to search for the folder name, not for the file name, which i think it's pretty normal (if you search for 001 there will be hunderds of results). Now, i don't know why on Mac, my library is not able to read the folders, where the files are.
If i search for "M4" he will find the objects, poses, etc. that have M4 in the file name, but not the folders that contains M4 files, even if that folders are M4 labeled.
why don't you try advanced library manager for rdna. that's what I use and I have thousands of external runtimes. I have the names of the enclosing runtime folder giving me an idea of the content, and the search for these names in the python script ALM is instant eg if I search the word helicopt (see attachment). also when you load it into poser it looks like it is part of poser and is very easy to use.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
that search took less than a second and now I can select one of those folders or even all of them and the utility combines all the folders into one virtual runtime if I want. and it literally took only a second or less to find those helicopter folders. I'm on a mac. Love esther

Hi to everybody,
i have another problem since i passed from Poser Pro 2010 on PC to Poser Pro 2012 on Mac. This is a huge problem, basically the library is not able to find the objects: If for example on the field "search" of the library i type "combat", because i need some combat poses, the library starts to search and then it founds nothing.
But if i manually go to library/poses, the "combat" folder is there. I have the objects i need but the library is not able to find it, why?
I have tried moving my runtime folder, and in a first moment it works, but then, when i close and open again Poser, it stop working and is not able to find anything again...
Thank you!
