I don't see anywhere to pre order on the website. Guess we have to wait for release date to order.

Ok ... my second day with Pauline ... so I'm still working on the subtitles of the facial rigging and the Superfly settings. But this is what I have so far. Default Superfly settings, one sunlight (infinate) and an environmental IDL with the sky. Amy hair morphed, and tweaked rigging on Pauline's face. Be kind. I know there's some wonkiness going on. 😄

I did soften the brightness on the sclera and teeth. Otherwise I left the default settings on the figure shaders.

So....this is one of those render engines that does not tell you when it's done rendering? It lets you decide when the image is done to your satisfaction? Which means that you can't really compare render speeds with PP2014.

Well, I used a lower resolution so I could at least get this online. I'm still learning and as I recall, there are some settings to gauge the time. I did however already shut the program down for the day. Hopefully the masters can come on and give details that I cannot yet. Still learning. A new feature is a "quote" box by the library that gives details of the renders and other scene details if you want. A new feature.

about 1/2 an hour ... but then I didn't tweak the settings either. I spent the afternoon changing lights, poses, expressions ... and re-rendering. This still isn't as good as it can be but I wanted to post something.

I believe early adoption sales ill start the 17th. Price of upgrade should be roughly what the previous version's upgrade is however they might run specials (an early adopter price) That last part is not confirmed.

The dust settled, thinking "what a fine home, at least for now" not realizing that doom would soon be coming in the form of a vacuum cleaner.

hornet3d ( ) posted Fri, 13 November 2015 at 5:56 AM

I like a lot of the new features but I will need to see what they are doing with regards to the activation/deactivation before I decide to upgrade.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

So....this is one of those render engines that does not tell you when it's done rendering? It lets you decide when the image is done to your satisfaction? Which means that you can't really compare render speeds with PP2014.

P11Pro still has the Firefly render engine, albeit with some modifications. Yous can run the Python script Render Firefly and select time and it will "ding!" when finished and leave a little popup with the elapsed time. The only comparison I did was a massive scene in low lighting, which makes it hard on the render engine. Pro2014GD took 3hr51m and P11Pro finished in 3hr31m.

As for the Superfly render engine, you can render progressively, but you also have the option to render bucket by bucket, which takes less time to reach a given level of quality. You set a total samples/bounces when rendering progressive, so it does have a defined halt condition. There is now a very handy message log in Poser, and if you open that it will tell you when the render started and the total elapsed render time.

Wandering off topic, but the grey message log icon turns orange if you make a bad material node connection; open the message log and it will tell you which prop/figure, which material zone, and exactly which connection between which two nodes! Message log is your friend. 😀

P11 message log and library icons.PNG

This scene was lit by hundreds of paper lanterns and glass biolumenescent globes, plus the flame mesh in the candle. The only Poser light is a 3% point light in the candle flame. Superfly makes nice glass and nice metals, and the materials to do so are very simple.

This wasn't intended as a finished art piece; it's a render engine torture test; the Poser lights are dialed down to 3-7%, there are a myriad of light emitting mesh areas, and lots of geometry. Paul and Pauline. as Jedi, sparring the night away on Stonemason's Urban Future 2 city set.

Just another test-render of the new and included Ground/Sky Pond.jpg

The ground plane can be morphed, and can be textured, (as I did above), and I added a second flat plane to "play" water, with a simple procedural shader setup.

I painted the ground texture in blender, but all the rest you see above is included.

OH Wait. So the Blender,Daz Studio and now Poser render engines don't have a ending ,they just render for ever ? how would you render a video ?

In P11Pro, both render engines can render progressively. Both render engines can render buckets.

When rendering progressively, the samples/bounces you entered for render settings establishes a halt condition, which, when reached, stops the render.

If you mean the dark splotches in corners of rooms, that doesn't happen with Superfly. As with all PBRs, you do risk leaving a grainy appearance if you don't give it enough samples, but the characteristic Firefly IDL artifacts simply don't exist in Superfly.

So, for some shots, you may find Firefly is your best choice, and for other shots, Superfly is the way to go. Often, you can use either one and get a decent result.

Hi here are some Old legacy "poser figures" in the Official Blender version of cycles via a free one click conversion script I have been using. I did not do any node wrangling to get better hair results but not a bad result for a few minutes .

the skin is scary.

this type of Blenders n DSs renders take a long time to render .longer then the older render engines.

If you all are going to use this type of renders you all will need to adjust to longer render times.

Why strange? Makes perfect sense; when Poser 11 is released, you can pay for the upgrade rather than full price.

If I paid over $100 for software on Monday and discovered that the next day the new version is released I would be furious..... I find Smith Micro's marketing methods quite contradictory to everything I learned in marketing classes when I was in college. Oh well.... we'll see Tuesday (maybe)
