Subject: How Do I Update/Download The Latest Carrara Patch?

Artformz2 ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2016 at 3:20 AM · edited Tue, 07 January 2025 at 9:36 AM

Can't find any link to download the latest Carrara patch at Daz. Anyone know where to find this?

No patches, always complete programs. Have a look inside your Product Library. Recent Version is 8.5.1 build 19

Maybe more a question for the DAZ forums?

Carrara 8.5.1.19 is a disaster, or a joke (your pick). It has all the 'smell' of a software product that hasn't even been tested for 15 minutes before being released.

I use the v8.1 (very good version), could you explain what are the problems in 8.5 ? Thanks.

@ DUDU.car:

I use Carrara 8.1.1.12 oft and on and it is a very stable release. To me it is the last good known version of Carrara. I have reported some of the problems I had with 8.5.1.19 in this link.

Another problem I had was the incompatibility of projects created with 8.1.1.12 when opened in 8.5.x.x. For example in this link (Warning: image contains nudity) the hair for the girl on the left does not render in one of the 8.5.x.x releases and she is bald.

These are all very good reasons for me to stop using Carrara and switch to something else.

...and why not simply use C8.1 ? Oh yes, I forgot this "Genesis" but there are many other things to do without "Genesis" !

@ DUDU.car:

I think it's pointless to talk about which version of Carrara to use. Afaiac Carrara is only good to put a half-naked Victoria in the middle of some scenery, then spend a lot of time tweaking the textures so they look good and human skins don't look like thick leather, and hit the render button to get an output no better than a picture taken with a cheap point & shoot camera.

Carrara is dead. The dream of having Carrara, Studio, Hexagon and Bryce merged into one single mouth-watering 3D app will never materialize, because Daz does not have this kind of software engineering expertise.

The reason being is that I want to use Mac Yosemite OS on a new computer this summer.

I've rolled Carrara and Studio back to the last versions that worked well together, not screwing that up lol

I checked my Products list at Daz, looks like I downloaded the latest version (haven't installed it yet).

Is there a way to get earlier versions?

Would they be helpful at Daz customer service or would they tell me scram?

Good question. I'm an app hoarder and still have my original download of Terragen on CD. Bet if I dug I could find my original download of Studio 1.3 lol

Carrara 8.5.243 + Studio 4.8.0.59 Work about as well together as carrara and studio 4 ever have.
