Hello everybody! I hope all of you are doing well. I just wanted to tell you all about a monthly activity that will be coming to the mixed medium and photography forums starting on May 9th. The activity is called The Unusual Subjects. I have asked coordinators and moderators for various subject matter, it could be a word, a phrase, an emotion, a scene, a place, an object, or etc. and every month I will type those subjects into the randomizer on Random.org and whatever subject it chooses will be the subject matter you have to use or create in your image for that month. I’m planning on having the same subject for each forum, so you can create an image for either forum. This isn’t a mandatory activity and this won’t take the place of the images you usually upload to the gallery. You can still upload the images you usually upload. I just thought this would be a fun thing for all of us to do together and talk about. You can upload your images from this activity to the galleries and to the forums. If you have any subject matter ideas, then let me know in the comments below or send me a sitemail and I’ll add them to my subject matter list. Also, if you have any activity suggestions, any other suggestions, or questions, then let me know about those too. If you think any other members would enjoy this activity, then please forward this information to them or tell them about this. I have put the rules for this activity below so everybody can become familiar with them when it comes time for this activity to get started. I hope everybody is having a great day or night! :)

 

Rules

1. Each member will have a month to create a new image that goes along with the subject for that month.

1. Each member can enter one image per forum and gallery per month. For example, one image (the same image) in the photography forum and photography gallery or one image (the same image) in the mixed medium forum and mixed medium gallery. If you're scared of posting your image in the forum, then you can post a link in the forum to your image in the gallery. We all want to see what an amazing image you created and by posting it or posting a link to it in the forum we can all do just that.

2. Members can upload their images to the forums and galleries at any time during the month.

3. All images will be eligible to be chosen as staff picks of the week.

 

If you all think some rules should be added or subtracted, then let me know. Also, do you all want the images to be judged at the end of every month or not? Feel free to answer all of this and more below. :)

I forgot to tell you all that I'm over the other apps gallery too, so if you want to do this activity using smartphone apps, tablet apps, online graphic software, or any kind of lesser known graphic software, then you can. Just upload your image to the other apps gallery and add your image or gallery link to the photography or mixed medium forum since there's no other apps forum.

This new activity sounds great, and it will be fun to participate. I'm excited about it.

The only thing I don't know is what you meant by this explanation:"I will type those subjects into the randomizer on Random.org". But I guess that this is as the normal e-bot we receive from you, as them from LWIG.

Hi Jacomina! Thank you for the wishes! What I meant is that I want the subjects to be randomly chosen each month instead of me saying lets go with this subject this month. I want us all to be surprised with what subject is chosen every month. On Random.org you can can type whatever items you want to be jumbled up and later chosen for whatever your use is. I called what they do a randomizer, because it gives you different (random) results each time you hit the randomize button on there. I hope I explained that well. Feel free to let me know if I've confused you even more. lol I hope you're having a wonderful day or night! :)

Isn't it so that we have to wait with posting here (or on our gallery), until we know what item has coming out by the Random? Sorry for my questions all the time (and I'm not blond, LOL) Jacomina

Jacomina, feel free to ask all the questions you want. I ask a lot of questions too. If no one asked any questions, they would be left out of the loop. You're right, you have to wait until the subject comes out on Monday so you'll know what to capture or create and then you can post it or link to it on here. I will start a new thread with the title, The Unusual Subjects - May 2016, on Monday with the subject in it and everyone can freely talk about how in the world they're going to capture or create that subject in an image. You can post your image on any day of this month in that thread or provide a link to it if you uploaded it to the gallery. I hope my answer has helped you and other members. Hi again Dee! You're my first and only mixed medium entry so far. I love your artwork! It's like Metropolis, the movie, meets the year 3000. I would tell you to post your link in The Unusual Subjects - May 2016 thread in the mixed medium forum too, but it looks like a ghost town in there right now. lol You can take a chance and post it there too if you want. Maybe a mixed medium member may see your link and say hey I want to try this activity out too. Have you checked out The Unusual Subjects - May 2016 thread in this forum? All the photography members have been posting their images in there. You're free to post your link in there too. I think you're going to get a lot of good comments on your artwork in there. Also, there's some cool fantasy images to check out in there too. :)

I just wanted to let you know that The Unusual Subjects activity has its own gallery now. You're free to use whatever medium you want in your images and you're free to enter more than one image now. You can find The Unusual Subjects Gallery by going to the top of the website and clicking on the Galleries tab and then clicking on Sections. You will see Unusual Subjects towards the bottom of the page in between TrueSpace and VistaPro. You can still link to or post your images in the photography and mixed medium forums too. I think we'll have an easier time seeing each other's work now in the gallery. If you created an image for the activity in May or June and would like to move it to the gallery, then you're free to do so. I have pasted a link to the gallery below. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that June's unsusual subject is The Living Room, just in case you decide to enter an image this month. The Unusual Subjects Gallery

 

A few members were getting confused about what images in the Unusual Subjects Gallery were for the monthly challenge and which ones weren't, so the non-challenge related images will now be moved to their correct gallery. I think some members may not know what the Unusual Subjects Gallery is for, so to make it a little clearer that the gallery is for a monthly challenge i would like to ask you all if you can put the title of your entries in this format, Your Title - "Month" Unusual Subjects Entry, so it should look like this, The Dark Room - June Unusual Subjects Entry. If you have any questions about this or anything pertaining to the challenge, then feel free to leave a comment below or sitemail me. I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

I started a new thread with some new Unusual Subjects information in it, but I thought I should add it here too. Here it is:

New Unusual Subjects Information

 

Hello everybody! The Unusual Subjects Challenge is constantly evolving and I thought I should update the rules and information for the challenge. The background history of the challenge is still the same. For those that don't know what the challenge is about, then here's a snippit of what it is about. I asked coordinators, moderators, and members for various subject matter, it could be a word, a phrase, an emotion, a scene, a place, an object, or etc. and every month I type those subjects into the randomizer on Random.org and whatever subject it chooses is the subject matter you have to use or create in your image for that month. Now it's time for me to introduce the new changes to the challenge, the challenge now has two categories and they are:

1. Fixed Theme - This is basically the original challenge. A subject will be chosen via Random.org and members will have to incorporate the subject in their images.

2. Open Theme - This is for members that don't want to be constrained by a subject, but want to capture or create their own unsusual subjects.

When you have finished your images and you're ready to upload them, you can upload them to the Unusual Subjects Gallery (Link: The Unusual Subjects Gallery) or you can upload them or paste a gallery link to them in the Unusual Subjects thread for that month in the Photography or Mixed Medium Forums. There's no right or wrong location to upload your images, you should upload to whatever location is easier for you to access. Now it's time to get down to the nitty gritty, the rules, here they are:

 

Rules

1. Any member from any genre can enter the challenge and create their image using any medium they like.

2. Each member will have a month to create an image or images that go along with the subject for that month.

3. Each member can enter however many images they want.

4. I know I changed the title format for the images recently, but I've decided to change it again so we'll all know what images are fixed theme or open theme. When you enter your images, your titles should look like this or something similar to this: Your Title - Month Fixed Theme or Your Title - Month Open Theme. You no longer have to put Unusual Subjects Entry in the title, because everyone will hopefully start to realize what the Unusual Subjects Gallery is for.

5. Members can upload their images to the Unusual Subjects Gallery or Photography and Mixed Medium Forums at any time during the month.

 

So there it is, The Unusual Subjects is going to get even more fun and exciting! I hope to see the same familiar members enter their amazing images and give awesome comments to their fellow members about their images and I hope to see some new members too!
