Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)
I forgot to ask in addition, are there other alternatives worth checking out? What about ease of use? Is it simple to import into poser and then proceed working from there. Is there software where i can take a picture and import that into a scene as as backdrop that will work with windows 7? I've seen this kind of software for a Mac, but not windows.
Re Kinect, only the pro editions of poser (poser 2014 pro and poser 11 pro) have the ability to use it directly I believe. As far as your 2nd question, I'm not sure what you are looking for. Poser can import image files as background, simply go to file/import/background picture. So you can use any image file you can get onto your computer. I'm not sure what the format limits are but I know you can use jpg's and png files.
You need Game Dev or Poser 11 Pro, to use the Kinect features. The Xbox 360 Kinect will work with Poser, but is (technically) not really supported. Results are notably better with a Kinect for Windows device. The Xbox version will work, but... not really very well, at all.
There are (or were, back in January) a few freeware Kinect applications (for Windows) that could do a better job than Poser of capturing motion with an Xbox device. I tracked them down with an hour or two of Googling. These standalone mocap applications can export to bvh, which can then be imported into Poser. That approach could work for Poser 10 -- assuming the Kinect v1 freeware is still out there. Kinect v1 is outmoded and Windows has fully discontinued Kinect for Windows, so a lot of Kinect-related projects seem to have closed up and gone away.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

I'm using poser 10 as a beginner. I'm learning. I stumbled across the xbox 360 kinect info online. Anybody have any experience with this? Will this work with poser 10 for recording my actions and then importing to poser? Looks like a huge time saver!
