Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 06 7:01 am)
That is an age old question ... if is what I think it is ... one way I've been told is to save the scene ... after you've deleted all the textures you don't want and restart Poser. Sometimes that works, others not so much. Gurus out there, is there another way?

I think it still needs to be hand-edited out of a cr2, pp2, or pz3 file. Note that if you remove a material and it is still present in an externally-loaded obj file, it will just be recreated by Poser.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
I haven't seen the new Archies style, actually. I'm going to guess that it's more realistic? I'm a fan of the Dan DeCarlo era stuff, but haven't liked any of the updates they've attempted since the 80s.
However, that isn't Jughead, in my avatar. Rather, it is Edmond Curse, Cage's own Bat-66 fan fiction Mary Sue, who in his sillier incarnations wears a Jughead beanie. Interested parties can learn more about Edmond by clicking the Cage Page link in my sigline, then going to the Peedy Adventures page.
@EClark1894: Wow! I never realized that. Will Poser load a ghost cr2 material if an externally-loaded obj has an attendant mtl file with a junk material listing? Huh.

Yeah, you can delete them in UVMapper, well the Pro version at any rate. More exactly, if you assign a material to a new name, the old one will no longer be there if you save out and re-load the model, or import it into Poser. It's saved me some headaches in the past and will no doubt save more in future.

Yep. Trust me. I know it will. I'm having that problem with Blender right now. Blender will produce a material and obj file with new materials in them. i can't figure out why, but poser will load them. They may or may not actually have any geometry attached to them. Fortunately, they're rather easy to spot and even easier to delete, but you have to delete them from BOTH files.

I have UV Mapper pro, cannot find any delete material option?
Save an MC6 with only the material zones you want.
Export the OBJ.
Load the OBJ into UV Mapper Pro. Save the OBJ. UV Mapper Pro will omit any material zone(s) which does not have any polys assigned to it.
Import the new OBJ into Poser, and apply the MC6. If you see a prompt asking "This collection has materials which do not exist. Do you wish to create them?", the answer is _No_.

So importing from Maya my material names are not sticking (saves them as labert13GS or some nonsense), so i need to make new material names in poser, but that still leaves the old material names, even if they have no geometry to point to.
How do you remove a material from the material list in Poser? I know you can do it in UV mapper but i'm mapping these in Maya and would be nice if i can just remove that step. It seems like poser must have a way to remove materials since it has so many ways to add them.
Thanks for any help!
