Can't you ask your vendors to remember to set the update flag (add or change "Updated" date in Item List) when they update their products? It happens regularly that they forget it. Here's some recent examples of products that either have had files added to them and/or had their files updated (file names have changed) but where the Updated flag/date hasn't been set (just says "N/A"):
