Subject: Creating a messy bed look.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for getting a messy bed look? I'm trying to get the starch out of the sheets and the concrete out of the mattresses, and maybe get some lumps in the pillows. A bed that looks like it's been slept in, or is being slept in. I've played around with bump maps and displacements with some success, but I feel like I may be rediscovering the wheel.

You can use the morph tool to create indentations and such with the push/pull tools. I also use it for armchairs to show the figures weight on the object. The wave tool might also be useful, you just have to experiment and try various settings.

Have you tried using the Cloth room?

For a sag in the mattress, I'd use a magnet. For messy covers, like Eclark said, use the clothroom. For pillows, either magnets or the morph brush. If the bed had an attached blanket, you can still use the clothroom. Just use the hi-res square and texture it to match the one below.

It all depends on the poly density, too. A simple cube for a mattress or pillow is not going to deform properly, no matter what. Then, you'd be better sticking with displacement. Even then, it's not going to be great.

Here's a mattress I just made with a magnet used to deform it. Anyone want?

Hi Kalypso I thought the morph brush or morph tool needs some mesh detail to work properly. I tried it a few times and was told that to be the case.
