Subject: Dot to Dot

Hi Everyone

Another stupid question :) Well only stupid cause I havn't found another way to this. Basically I am outlining an object that I can then spin around the z axis to form the full object. As at the moment I can only work out that I have place the verts separately then select 2 at a time and press f to place an edge between them. What I am trying to find if there is a way that I can automate this by clicking the vert location and then have it automatically place an edge between it and the previous vert like doing a hand drawing etc.outline.jpgoutline2.jpgoutline3.jpg This is just a quick example of what I am trying to do to spin it like this. spin.jpg

On the example above its not that difficult but when the outline starts to build up with a lot more vertices it can become very confusing and time consuming.

OK not sure if I am missing something and perhaps I am since I still have not had my second cup of coffee so please correct me if I am wrong. So you placed all the individual verts out into a pattern and now you want edges created between them? If that is the case why not just start where your first vert is and extrude to where you want the next vert to be and and so forth?

No you're not missing anything And I have never extruded single verts before and was not sue if that was possible. Always thought it required an edge or face. Will give it a go as I create the next objects in the scene. And as you said I did lay out all the verts in a dot to dot style set up and then applied the edges between them. As far as coffee goes though seeing how it after 3.30am here I'm up to about number 10 lol

Thankyou Incantrix

The easiest way I recall to do this create a plane in object mode go to edit mode delete 3 vets then just use the "E" key to extrude there is also that I just recall a add single vert from the add menu that can be started in Object mode I find using the first option I said above because 9 out of 10 times going to have to move the origin point after I have completed the outline before applying any spin

Still needs a lot of work to be done on this with both modelling and nodes etc, but the bowl was done as I originally said with all the verts laid out and then connected. The cups/glasses where done by extruding from a single vert. Having the first vertice put down at the origin point worked for me because I only needed to move it along the z axis to where I wanted it as I needed the connection in the middle when I applied the spin to it. I feel that outlining like this is a lot easier and possible quicker than taking a primitive object and manipulating it to the desired shape. newglass.jpg
