Subject: Poser 11 Updates—Poser Won't Open

Believable3D ( ) posted Sat, 15 July 2017 at 12:39 PM · edited Sun, 21 July 2024 at 9:13 AM

So I have tried again and again to take advantage of Poser 11 updates, since originally Superfly would not render in the background or in the Queue manager. To date, I am still stuck with that situation, because any update I install past the first couple results in Poser 11 crashing upon open.

I finally got in touch with Poser Support, but after initial response, I haven't heard back from them in a while, perhaps because it's the weekend. Maybe somebody here can help....

In normal Windows mode, the message isn't all that helpful, but when I attempt to open Poser with the latest update in Safe Mode, I get the following message:

"Warning Poser cannot find an open port for library communication. Please make sure you have no firewall or anti-virus software preventing communication."

I had already tried disabling my antivirus before, but I tried again, and also made sure Poser Pro was added to Windows Firewall's list of allowed programs, but that has not resolved the problem. It seems odd that an update would affect ports, but maybe someone here has an idea.

(I'm running Windows 8.1.)

I should add that I also just updated my video driver, so that's not the issue.

Can you try rendering using CPU instead of nVidia ? Do get the same problem ?

What is the message in normal mode?

Just the usual generic Windows message. "Poser Pro executable file has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This has nothing to do with rendering. It crashes as soon as I open Poser (when I attempt to use recent updates).

If its a problem with the library listening port - the entry from Diogenes in the following post has an external library trick, may be worth a go. https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2912859

Thanks, ironsoul. The external library trick in that thread does not solve the issue.

Looks like I've tracked this down via the Windows Reliability Monitor. Turns out there was an AdAware DLL file causing the trouble. (Years ago, AdAware was a recommended app, but apparently it's pretty much malware now.) Malwarebytes AdwCleaner got that cleaned out and the current Poser update now starts without crashing.

Thanks for your help, everyone.
