Subject: Viewport Shading Mode Acting Strange

Miss B ( ) posted Thu, 16 November 2017 at 4:10 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 10:48 PM

OK, I think this screenshot says it all, but basically in the past couple of days my mesh is looking transparent even though I have the Viewport Shading set to Shaded and NOT Wireframe. Is there a setting somewhere I may have changed, but don't recall doing? It's becoming difficult to mark seams while preparing to UV Map, so really want to get this straightened out

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Miss B. That seems like a strange issue, but there could be several factors at work here, any one of which can cause what you are experiencing. Let's start with the most basic. With your object selected, go to your Objects display panel tab, at the right of the viewport, next to the World display tab. Scroll down to the Display dropdown and make sure you don't have X-Ray or Transparency options ticked on there.

Also forgot to mention, one of the biggest issues that will cause this to happen in Edit mode is the Limit Selection To Visible option not being enabled. When in Edit mode, this option is located at the bottom of the viewport directly next to the Faces selection button. If that is not enabled, it will also give you the same type of issue you are experiencing here.

Here's a screenshot of the option button in viewport. Make sure this is enabled.

I could kiss you Lux, that's EXACTLY what happened. I must've accidentally clicked it at some point the other day when I was actually trying to select the Face button, and didn't realize I had done so. This is the first time this has happened in all the years I've been playing in Blender, well at least since the new GUI came out with version 2.5x, so couldn't begin to imagine what I had done to cause it. The old 2.4x versions didn't have anything like this.

Now I'm also interested in the info in your first post, but I'm not sure where you're asking me to look, so if you could post a screenshot of that as well, I'd like to make note of it as well for the future.

Thanks again. 🙂

Hi, Miss B. Sorry for the delayed response. I hadn't received a notification that there was a new post. Here's a screencap of the typical display options I was referring to in the initial post. These are just common display options I'm sure you were aware of, but I figured we should cover all the bases so to speak before getting into deeper preferences and graphics driver issues, etc. Glad it wasn't anything major.

Ahhh, OK. Thanks for the screenshot Lux, as I had the "World" options open (to the left of the "Object" options), so didn't see the X-Ray and Transparency options. I just checked now, and they aren't checked, so it was just my clicking on the wrong button when trying to get into Face Edit mode which caused the issue.

Now that I know where to look, I'll make a note of this as well, just in case, as you never know. Thanks again. 🙂
