Subject: How to set up groups for clothing modeled in Blender.

Miss B ( ) posted Mon, 22 January 2018 at 6:40 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 10:47 PM

OK folks, I'm more a hard surface modeler, but I recently modeled a simple dress that I'm pretty happy with, and would now like to make a conforming piece of clothing for use in Poser, but I have no idea how to go about it.

Anyone having links to tutorials, or other ideas on how to group a piece of clothing in Blender, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I know that Tony Vitters has a few tutorials using Poser to blender and back https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiiFNpMB2ENEiUuctAUObmg

SickleYeild has something concerning morphs which is for Blender and Daz Studio but it might contain some info that might be helpful since Daz also uses groups for clothing if I am not mistaken https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npue0bHmjkk

I suspect and again not my area of expertise but using vertex groups is how you would set up clothing in Blender or using the grouping tool in Poser to create those groups for conforming and I have heard that the new clothing tool in newer versions of Poser has come along way to making this an easier task than what it use to be. Shawn Driscoll on Youtube has an older tutorial Poser 6 which still has some good info and SmithMicro has a 2 part tut on the new tools for fitting clothing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtUtltmXFCk I hope these help and give you some help it is about all I have at the moment on this subject

Good Luck look forward to seeing how you make out

Ohhhh duuuuuuuuh!! I have Tony's tutorials listed in my Blender tutorials list at HiveWire. Now why didn't I think of that? ~smacks self upside the head~

I "think" I might have SY's tutorials listed too, if not thanks for the link Lobo, and the link to the SM tutorial.

Well, I played in it once, and it seemed easy enough, but several people have said NOT to do grouping within Poser, especial auto grouping, so I figured it's time to learn how to do so in Blender. I'll let you know what I get accomplished.

blender does export Vertex groups ............poser uses poly groups (yell if u dont know dif ) ( had a couple of years off 3d so this is memories ) I used to make clothes in hexagon we would cut dress up into parts (eg thigh/ hip etc ) then export to poser sure I ended up doing same sort of thing in blender ? autogroup in p7 was not fun ........in P2014 it can work but maybe need tweaking fitting room I not played enough to comment ...........I can crash anything !!
