Subject: Why do my Superfly renders look like they were printed on sandpaper?

I think "noise" is the proper term. Here's what I'm talking about. This is as simple as it gets. Using default SF settings. SuperflySandpaper.png

The simple answer ... too low of a setting for render. Before someone comes on with all the technical stuff and settings. Try some of the higher end settings in the render settings panel especially more passes. It also has to do with now many mesh lights you have. But settings are you best starting point. Don't get me wrong. The settings and techniques are important ... very important. I just want to give you a spring board first.

Open the Superfly render settings, and look for the Pixel Samples box (top of left side column). Increase that number considerably. Superfly stops rendering when that number of samples has been reached. If it is set too low, the render finishes but is still grainy. I prefer to set it quite high, then I can cancel the render (and export the picture) whenever I see that the render has resolved cleanly.

Read the thread How to Speed Up Cycles in the SM forum. It may help.
