Subject: charges for stuff I don't think I ordered

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 05 December 2018 at 6:53 PM · edited Sat, 18 January 2025 at 9:05 PM

I just got two emails from E-on saying my software orders are delivered. For VUE RenderNodes - 25 Seats (I don't even know what that is). Two orders of them.

I haven't bought anything from E-on for years. What the heck is going on?

I got the same think. An order for their creator package.

Thanks. I guess it's not just me. Do you think they really charged us?

They have my credit card info, because I bought Vue at one point, and I used to buy stuff at Cornucopia3D.

Is whoever hacked their site making use of the data they got? Is e-On's database totally screwed up, and they're billing or at least sending receipts to the wrong customers?

This doesn't make me eager to sign up for a subscription. :-P

On facebook there's a group called Vue Galleries. One of the admins there, Barry Marshall, works for e-on. You might want to post there, asking about this.

Thanks, but I'm not on Facebook and I never will be.

I have submitted a ticket at their web site. Though there was no category for sales or anything like that, just tech stuff.

Wow! "25 seats" mean that you have render nodes for 25 machines - that is, a network program that would allow you to use 25 different machines for making a single render. Just for your information. Two orders of this more or less implies that you received an email addressed to you by mistake. E-On is attempting to fill someone else's order that is working in the industry somewhere.

So, it would be polite to reply to E-On and state that you might have received this email from them by mistake.

Laughing......, by the way, I thought I was the only soul here determined to never to join Facebook. Aren't we glad we've abstained?!

Actually, Vue Galleries is mainly what the name implies - just for uploading our Vue artwork. However, the company themselves have a Facebook page, so it may be better to give that out in future. Not being pedantic, but I find it's always better to contact the company directly, rather than posting in forums etc. Get a much better response from the people who are there to answer my questions x

Apparently, I ordered two sets of 25, so they must think I have 50 machines. They've confused me for Industrial Light & Magic or something.

Maybe I should have replied to the e-mails; I'm just used to thinking those receipts come from no-reply addresses. Might not be true for people who buy 50 licenses at a pop, though.

No reply to my ticket yet, but I did get two more emails. These asking me to review the products I bought. I'm not sure it's even the same products. This one is an "Enterprise Solution" monthly subscription.

And it looks like I can write a review without logging in or anything. Maybe a 1-star review would get their attention. :-P

Well, I got a reply to my support ticket. It's not terribly enlightening.

"Don’t worry we did not charge you, you have received an upgrade thanks to your maintenance."

I did pay for a maintenance plan years ago, but it should be long over now. And no way did I ever pay for the Rendernodes described in the e-mail. I'm a hobbyist. I bought a single copy of Vue Infinite, which I use on only one computer. It's Vue 2015, I think.

It's forwarded from someone else at E-on with a note saying "Another of these cases."

I wrote back to E-on and told them they must have me mixed up with someone else. They insist that I'm getting the RenderNodes as part of the "Enterprise Solution" and maintenance plan I bought.

WTF? I'm a casual hobbyist who doesn't even use Vue very much any more. Why would I want the "Enterprise Solution"? I haven't bought any E-on software since November 2015.

The e-mails they sent me include license numbers, which presumably allow me to use the newest version of Vue and Plant Factory. Even though I have not paid for them, so far as I know. I haven't tried them to see if they work.

This is really making me leery of doing business with them in the future.
