Subject: PoserPro11 Animation Palette & Parenting?

mouser ( ) posted Mon, 01 July 2019 at 12:05 AM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 1:24 PM

Hi, this is probably just me getting things wrong (again).

On the keyframe panel of the Animation Palette the parented figures are seperate to the parent figure.

As they are not connected it is impossible to collapse them under their parent figure resulting in a clutter of figures.

I take it this should be possable (and should be by default) but cannot find how or is this how the parented figures work on the keyframe panel?

I'm afraid that's not a current feature of Poser. Poser treats all figures as being at the same level of the animation hierarchy, no matter whether they're parented or conformed to other figures. If you parent figures in the Hierarchy Editor, as opposed to just conforming them, however, the hierarchy editor will allow you to collapse the hierarchy and hide those figures to a certain extent.

These might be features worth requesting of Poser's new developers at Renderosity, if you can present sufficient evidence of an improvement in workflow to justify the effort required. That's not to say that I don't think such a thing worth asking for, in fact I remember seeing one of erogenesis' posts where he's created his own tools that do seem to allow that kind of thing, but they're not built into the standard or pro versions of Poser at the moment.

I was afraid of this, looks like i'll have to (yuck) work.

On average each figure has parented Hair, a shirt, pants or a skirt and shoes.

Thats at least 80% of the keyframe window just cluttered unecessarily.

You would think it would be self evident to the developers.

Which forum would be apropriate for said new feature request/suggestion?

Yeah the script I'm working in essentially replaces a bunch of standard features in Poser, such as the hierarchy editor. All items are color coded and conforming items have a dark secondary color to show their relative unimportance. I've added an option to hide all conforming items, or make them unselectable. Its extremely useful in busy scenes.

My script is not yet available, there's no ETA on it either since it will take a lot more work to get it commercially ready. It would be better if these features were just standard in Poser, done by developers that are paid to do this thing professionally.
