Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 08 10:28 pm)
It has to be hamfisted because the license server for Poser 2014 is going away. Since SM no longer service Poser and its licensing, the server was temporarily at Bondware aka Renderosity. Come 19th the server will be shuttered and there will be licensing errors abound. The only way around this is if you had a permanent offline license for Poser 2014.

I gotta' admit, I was left a bit confused by the wording. I know I'll need to upgrade (P2014) eventually, but at this point I would guess we're only a short couple of years from the next version of Poser, when it would probably be time to upgrade, considering the mileage I've gotten out of it (and V4).

Thanks a million. Much appreciated.
I have poser pro 2014 game developer. In theory I have a permanent license. I hope I can keep it? I like the Library and Firefly renderer suits for what I'm doing.
Couldn't Bondware just have removed the Kill switch? I'm eventually going to have to load another version of Poser anyway (It had better NOT require web check-in) when I upgrade to windows 10.
I'm with consumer573 on this, I had Poser 2014 pro GD upgrade but went back to using Poser pro 2014 after GD kept intermittently wanting to activate. Due to having a few priceless Netherworks - Shaderworks scripts that really dont play very well under Poser Pro 2011, I've a bit of longwinded workflow going from poser pro 12 to 14 to Pro11.
Last weekend my copy of Pro 14 stopped working, I uninstalled it - reinstalled it several times and it wouldn't get past the loading screen before quiting. Just as a tip to anyone reinstalling pro 14, after installing the main program, install SR3 it seem to fix the problem and took me to the activation screen. I can confirm Pro 2014 still registers and activates as of 25/09/19.
After being stung a couple of times by programs that have stopped working after companies have gone bust and pulled the plug on their online servers. I'm not so keen on programes that need permanent online connection that keeps needing to touch base before working. I understand that Rendo/ Bondware need to protect their IP, but after spending a considerable chunk of change on poser over the years, there's got to be a better way.
Sorry rant over 8-)
There are many reasons why someone may not want to update and lose 2014GameDev.
There were certain subtle differences between 2014 and P11 Firefly due to the shoehorning required to make most parts of the material room usable with both Firefly and Superfly.
It does all you need it to do and you don't need Superfly.
PoserFusion is apparently being discontinued going forward. It maybe that's your pipeline.
They may only have a 32bit pc, P11.2 requires a 64bit pc, that's quite a biggie.
Even WardrobeWizard. I believe it's no longer in P11.2. I personally prefer it to the fitting room.
So it's not necessarily as clear cut to update/upgrade as you may think it is.

Here's the thing. Most, if not all of Game Devs special features are already included in Poser Pro 11.2 such as: Figure – Combine Figures… Figure – Find Unseen Polygons… Figure – Remove Unseen Polygons… Window – Add-Ons – Kinect Capture (Windows only) File – Import – FBX File – Export – FBX
Those features are even described in the Poser Reference Manual. Now, as I'm about destitute myself, I understand not being able to upgrade your computer to 64 bit, but as I've discovered recently, if you install and Poser runs, no problem, it won't run if it's 32 bit only so you can always uninstall.
As to the subtle differences between Game Dev's Firefly and Poser Pro 11's Firefly, can you name them?
I will be honest, the differences I mention are from posts that were at the SM forums, like splotches in the render as in this post:
https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/877/idl-in-poser-11-a-step-back-from-poser-10/2
or this one for example:
https://forum.smithmicro.com/topic/9619/black-splotches-on-final-render
The 32 bit issue. As you have to update to carry on using Poser, this thread in the P11 technical forum shows that P11.2 will not even install on a 32 bit machine. https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2938006 Therefore you will lose your ability to use Poser.
As for the features you mentioned that are in both versions, I agree, however if someone's workflow involves the GameDev features and then utilising PoserFusion then they will be out of luck.
I have a 64bit system so I'm OK. I'm lucky in that my GameDev was an upgrade from 2014, so I just reverted it back to 2014, and updated my PPro11.1 to PoserPro11.2 without problems.
So I was just listing reasons as to why somebody may not want to upgrade that's all.

Why are people suggesting you can’t use Firefly in Poser 11? You can.
Firefly is present and functional but the PREVIEW renderer is very, very messed up. Firefly is also not rendering lighting and materials the same as it did in Poser 10 versions. It's close but I had to personally tweak all my materials and lights all over again to get them back to some semblance of similarity. You cannot open PP10/Game Dev setups in PP11 and get identical results. Sorry to blow that one out of the water, but you just can't.

Poser Game Dev is dead. Mine died on Nov.4 when it couldn't activate. So rest your license and ownership agreement is apparently moot in the eyes of both Smith and Bondware. I think you can revert back to PP2014 base, but you're going to lose your FBX and gamedev features.

I just received a communication from store staff and thney said I cant reinstall poserpro2014 and I have to buy poserpro11 upgrade. It seems that all poser versions prior to poser11 have been deleted in the deal.i
Not true If you are in Possession of a Licence for PP2014 you can install it whenever you wish you can still access the downloads of the installers in the SM Download manage if you need assistance for the Download manager you can send me a PM
All Updates and service packs are still aviable through the Download manager so you should not have any issues getting these , just make sure once downloaded to keep a backup of them
Also, if you have Poser 11, the update is free. If you don't, but you had Poser 2014 AND you want the new version, like with any other software, you have to pay for the upgrade you did not have before (and the price is a lot cheaper than it used to be, actually). If you had PP2014 Game Dev version, the update is, again, free. No one is forcing anyone to update an older version if they don't want to--but it is a good practice, as gate has said above, to keep backup copies on a separate drive.
My Poser pro 2014 is still running. It is a bit funny because it refused to when I had Poser 11 (telling me I had a newer license - which is correct). Now, I didn't try with Poser 11.2 running maybe it would complain again. Anyway I don't use it anymore. It is on another computer I just keep the Runtimes as a backup just in case. And I also have Poser 6 on an even older computer, that one I use to check P3DO backward compatibility :)

poserPro 2014 won't run on my iMac now - the problem is Flash; tried the latest version of Flash but no joy.
Search for Poser 2014 MAC requirements - it uses both Flash and Adobe Air and you can download old versions of flash if that's what you need. Old Adobe Air also. Just google

If you've blocked it from accessing the internet like I did, try letting it through - after I updated my flash, adobe air it still wouldn't bring up my library but after I let it through to the internet it did ... and it's plain old 2014 shouldn't be accessing the internet anyway.

Well, it might be. Mine does to check for updates. I never shut it off.
PP2014 came out around May 2013. I remember this because we were updating the Library building and put together list of things to buy for the new building and we got PP2014 instead of PP2012 because it had just come out and Smith Micro sent the quote for 14 Licenses in June of 2013. So Poser 10/2014 is now around 6.5 years old.

According to the latest email, the September 19 Poser upgrade will "convert" Poser Pro 2014, Poser 11, and Poser Pro 11 to Poser 11.2, free of charge!! In other words, if you were perfectly comfortable with your current version, kiss it goodbye! You're moving to Poser 11.2, kiddo. SO THERE!
I've been using Poser Pro 2014 and for a variety of good reasons I wish to keep using it. I like the Firefly render engine, and haven't read anything so encouraging about Superfly that I thought I had to have it. I have absolutely no use for La Femme, Dusk, or Dawn, the admittedly splendid HiveWire Horse), Baby Luna or Gorilla for Dusk.
Does any one know if it will be in any way possible to maintain or re-install the older Poser version(s) after this (really hamfisted) upgrade?
