Subject: Download Servers Down

Our connection was never lightning fast here in the home of the Tomato...but I know a crashed server when I see one.

Two Tries. Two crashes...

Poser Overlords...y'all didn't hit the sack already did ya?

I need details to report...what is it doing for you? Link you are using to download. And error if any you are getting.

quietrob ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 6:36 PM · edited Wed, 18 September 2019 at 6:39 PM

I've already cleaned up the failed downloads.

The big download failed at 59Meg downloaded.
The smaller download near the same figure. Download speed varied between 5 and 50K per second. That is kilobytes.

Current Speed is approximately 5K tops. We were never lightning fast here other's may do better. The failure was on the "Faster Downloads" Servers.

I've tried again. Here is my current picture.

It's National Cheeseburger Day. I guess, I'll eat 5 or 6 and see where I'm at.

I am patient. It will work. Third Shake.png

I downloaded all the files this afternoon since they were on the public facing side of the posersoftware.com site. When downloading a single file, I was seeing around 1 MB/s transfer speed on the "Faster Downloads" server. I'm in a rural area with only 24 Mb/s down - on a good day. LOL!

Not sure if these are the actual final update/install files, so I haven't actually run them yet. Will see what happens tomorrow and either download again or install with what I got today.

LeeMoon ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 6:57 PM

@quietrob: Perhaps try using the "slow" download server for a few files to see if that perks things up. Everyone might be jumping on the fast ones and overloading them. I dunno, might be worth a try if you haven't already done so. 😀

quietrob ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 7:39 PM

That's exactly what I did. It's slow but at steady. I'll be done in 8 hours or so at this rate.

Thanks for the tip!!

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 7:48 PM

Uh, boy. If it's this bad tonight, I hate to think about what it will be like tomorrow!

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 8:51 PM

Dang... and here I thought that my ghetto rural DSL line (all 24mbps of it) was craptastic... dude, my condolences.

I'll buy and d/load P11 after the weekend - wait for the crush of patch-o-rama to get done.

I am happy with my early adopter version and I am an 8-5er, so won't be able to even touch the final version until the family stuff is done in the evening. No rush for me either.

quietrob ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 9:02 PM

I just logged in again. I'm blazing at 100 kilobytes per second. Brings back the good old days when I could start up the 1600 Baud modem and fly my f-16. I was national champion (for a while). Callsign Weasel. Oh how we owned the America On Line pilots in multiplayer. Of course my CPU could pull over 5 G's in a turn because it had something called a Math coprocessor. I think I used Windows 95. Such good times.

Fast forward to 2017 and Sweetie and were blazing at 100Mps per second with a turbo burst that was even faster. Hey! Only two hours left. 😅

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 9:09 PM

Well, I just took a chance, and it took all of 3 minutes to get the Poser 11 installer downloaded, and about 1 minute to get the Poser Support installer downloaded, using the Faster Download links.

Now I just hope that those are indeed final. I don't think I'll do any installing until tomorrow.

For me, 3 minutes on the not-faster download link. I think some people's situations are coincidence.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Today's build took about 3 minutes to download on the regular download; I bit the bullet and grabbed it, just in case. I appear to have a good machine with a decent connection. Bless the 21st century.

Anyone who thinks it is slow, check your internet speed with a speed tester. My download speed tester measured 80 to 85 Mbps.

There are certain people who win they speak, you should really listen to them. Bagginsbill is one of them. I am the OP. The download just finished....the regular server. Here is my final screenshot. Compare it with the screenshot during the download frenzy. Full Disclosure.

SO perhaps it was a combination of all factors. Frenzy, butt slow internet speed, et al. This thread does give a statistical sample that we can average at the least. Someone has to be the last horse to finish the race. I do pity my friends in other countries that might be even slower than I.

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 18 September 2019 at 9:58 PM

98 Mbps according to Speedtest.net. Downloaded everything pretty quickly. I was going to wait until tomorrow, just in case there's further updates, but I started downloading, just to see how fast it was, and ended up grabbing everything, including the content files.

It appears they've fixed whatever problem they were having.

Download speed here is usually 200, but I think I'll wait till this evening (it's only quarter to 6 am here. Cat got me up early ...)

JohnDoe641 ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 12:19 AM

They added Dawn and Baby Luna on the download page.

If I already have Dawn SE, is this an updated version or the same thing?

FYI - the "Faster Download" links pull from Amazon S3 and should provide a much better download experience as traffic increases.

Byrdie ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 7:58 AM

Additional Content link is throwing a hissy, at least for me. I put in my P11 Serial Number like it says then I get an "Oops! Something went wrong" exception error page with a ton of coding stuff I don't understand.

LeeMoon ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:15 AM

I'm getting the same error message as Byrdie when trying to access the Mac Additional Content link, right after I enter my license key for validation. Here's a section of the error(s):

Fixed now - was problem with permissions on some files just added.

LeeMoon ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 8:26 AM

And the error message is gone now and I'm on the Additional Content page. Yay! I'm starting my downloads right now! And doing the Happy Camper Dance. LOL!

Thank you @tim!

Fixed now - was problem with permissions on some files just added.

I'm no longer getting the error exception page (the download list properly appears), but the legacy nudes and the legacy props file downloads give a failed/forbidden error.

edit: The props zip completed successfully this time. :D
