Subject: Background image in vue

Bonjour I did it long time ago but now i didn't see how to import a background image or a photo inside vue and use it while a foregound scene is construct with 3d objets Thanks

You need to create an plane (possibly an alpha plane) of some kind, and then create a material to apply to the plane. The material holds your background image.

Is this understandable?

thanks Forester I have tried .create a plan, pose it in background. click edit material, color image, load a photo on it, see it in the square inside the material editor and see nothing when i render See screen captureScreenShot001.jpg

It probably needs to be an "alpha plane." I made one for you i Vue 15 (to make sure that you can load it). Go here to download the Vue scene. http://www.expandingwave.com/clientdownload/V15_AlphaPlaneBackground.vue

You can save out the "alpha plane object" for use in all your scenes. But after loading, you must change the material file, the image, to your desired background image.

Very beautiful scene you are making, by the way......

Thanks i will try with your alpha plane scene

If that doesn't work, please let me know. Alpha planes and "billboards" are discussed in the Vue 2016 Reference Manual.

Another technique, if you have an HDRI image is to use it in the atmosphere. This and "IBL lighting" and "image baking" are discussed on page 177 in my Vue 2016 Reference Manual. But my manual is out of date, I believe. Anyhow, you could search for these terms in your Reference Manual and experiment with those methods.

Thanks for your suggestions Using your alpha plane file , i see the background photo in the active preview windows but ,when i render, the background photo disappear and i see the sky behind. Anyway , i see that my photo not really match with the foreground so i must find another one in my phoyotheque I am also using Vue Infinite 2016 and i have the reference manual. I will see if i can use the billboard. In Poser and DAzStudio, using a background photo is more easy and the result is very good

Please post your final scene or put a link to it here. It really looks nice!

There's also the "Backdrop" option. With your camera selected, click on the backdrop icon and load your image from there. No need for planes then, and you don't have to worry about shadows cast or received either. Hope this helpsuntitled-1.jpg

Hi forester! Glad to see you again. I just got Vue 15 reinstalled after a Win 10 update horked my CG box so badly it wouldn't boot. Getting back into CG after a forced retirement (blown knees, one artificial now), a round of prostate cancer (caught early enough for surgical removal. So far so good), and a mild heart attack, and the recovery from all of the above. Going to take a bit to get back up to speed on things, but it should be fun!

I've always used backdrops in my camera setting. Then say whether it is affected by environment lighting or not.
