Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 08 12:39 am)
Here's an article from the Apple Insider.com website.
Why MacOs Mojave Requires Metal and-Deprecates OpenGL
Also, from what I've seen and learned over the years as a user of Poser, there's not THAT much difference between the two versions except for the code they use to write them. You should even be able to run Poser on your Mac in virtual mode. (Don't quote me on that)
Virtual Mode means running an operating system on a virtual machine, such as DOSBOX.
EClark184 - OpenGL and Open CL haven't been updated for years on OSX. The current version on OSX is 3 or 4 versions back from what is current. Currently, Metal is lacking a lot of functionality that is in OpenGL. (Think the 1st 5 years or so of the Cocoa libraries - P.T. Barnum was demanding that developers move to it, and didn't want to hear that most of the functionality of the Carbon libraries simply didn't exist in Cocoa.)
As someone that has been on OSX since the 10.0 beta, I'd recommend preparing to transition off OSX. Tim Cook is John Sculley redux. There won't be any creative professionals left to rescue Apple like last time.
The upcoming 7,1 Mac Pro wasn't writing on the wall, it was a comet streaking across the sky (and a big %$ to everyone that is still on a 4,1 or 5,1 awaiting something other than a dongle for Logic and Final Cut).
I was a die hard mac user for 20 years when I worked in the print graphics industry.
I foolishly clung to the Mac OS for far too long when I got into 3D in the early 2000's.
I switched to windows years go, to acess Iclone pro and all of the other Character animation options on windows.
Apple/mac OS is not a platform for 3D/CG users, professional or even casual hobbyists.
It has long ago become a luxury ,status symbol brand for affluent consumers.

I'm hoping that Poser is going to continue to be updated and improved. I'm wondering, for the Macintosh version, is there any consideration being given to rendering in Metal, the new component being introduced in Apple's Catalina OS? It's supposed to be much faster than Open GL or Open CL.
Or, as an alternative, there are newer versions of Open GL and Open CL, but Apple has not employed them because it's deprecated them in favor of Metal. Are Poser developers considering ways to bring updated versions of Open GL and Open CL to be used on the Macintosh version of Poser?
And, in general, is developmnt ongoing?
