Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 6:41 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Support for Github (Call for Suggestions)

Quick Update:

It was suggested to present a roundtable discussion here concerning Poser Pro and its operational support via GitHub. I know some of you have already been introduced to GitHub; but a rep from Renderosity is asking for your input and support in creating a customized user experience for Poser Pro scripts, hierarchy files and extensions. This may include working directly with the GitHub API to develop a new theme or color scheme (for Github), building new content pipelines for Poser file deployment, creating API's and interfaces for automating CI-CD for the Renderosity store and other 3D related sites, etc.

The main objective of the roundtable is to agree upon and build a infrastructure for uniform Poser Pro content builds and deployment; this includes drafting and finalizing any financial and end user license agreements. Secondary objectives include building and populating a new Python Script Store here at Renderosity. Another area is to help in the development of the flagship models La Femme and L'Homme. Also, a new Developer Resources department for the new store which will host utility software developed for and by Poser Python.

If you have or are participating in an existing Poser related project at GitHub and would like to participate or contribute to this project, then please introduce your concepts here. Please note that this forum is moderated by staff and all supporting comment are welcomed.

  • GitHub - is ugly and confusing, so yes... a "new theme or color scheme for Github" would be very useful - if it was user-facing rather than developer facing. I assume there must be a market in such things, and that one can just buy one 'off the shelf' like you can a WordPress template. But if the repository is only going to be for devs... then I'm sure that most will be able to cope without pretty-fication. A unified folder containing all known PoserPython documentation would also be useful, but perhaps that belongs in a .ZIP on the "new Python Script Store" at Renderosity.

  • a "new Python Script Store" at Renderosity. It would be great if it's comprehensive, as so many useful Poser scripts are scattered all over the Web. Would Renderosity be keen to make it completely comprehensive? That would mean having a uniform record-page for each script known to work with Poser 12 + any clearly explained workarounds and links to fix patches to get it working on Poser 12. Many of those pages would also need outbound links to competitor services such as CG Peers, or even to the DAZ Store. I'm not sure Renderosity would be keen on having such links.

I am not too sure that Bondware wants to be giving outbound links to a pirate torrent site.

Forum Coordinator Online Now!

Better do homework first:

  • Catalog and document scripts that come with the Poser install.
  • Fix bugs in the API, delete loose ends when not proceeded with
  • Provide new documented libraries and examples. For included examples and scripts highlight techniques used.
  • provide infrastructure for scripts loaded along with content, do cleanup, do reload on scene reload, separate instances to avoid crosstalk.

My mistake. "CG Peers" = whatever the various CG freebie sites are called. Most seem to be called 'CG Something', and many have old PoserPython scripts on them. Possibly I was thinking of CG Share, CG Bytes, CG Trader, or the similar names that pop up in the search results.
