Did this happen after you loaded the most recent updates? I haven't loaded mine yet. Should I wait?

hborre ( ) posted Wed, 10 June 2020 at 4:51 PM

I got a similar warning but I went ahead and installed anyway. Just because I received a warning, it doesn't prevent me going ahead with running it.

UPDATE: Due to something added called Reputation based Protection in new build of windows locked Poser11 down hard

I Hate warnings

Not true, you can still install the latest update to Poser 11. I have done so on 2 computers.

But do you have the most recent version of Windows on those computers? I had the usual monthly update for Windows yesterday, but I still haven't gotten the newest Windows 10 yet. I just hope I don't run into this issue when it becomes available, because there will be hell to pay if I can't get any work done.

I have the latest updates for Windows. When installing, Windows does generate a dialogue box with the warning. Click on the options link and you will get the run anyway button showing up in the next panel. My downloads through Chrome went flawlessly without any challenges.

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 10 June 2020 at 9:44 PM

OK, I haven't updated Poser since 11.3.740 (I think), so haven't been doing any installing of late. I'll have to keep this in mind when I do update Poser again.

With you do decide to update, keep an eye on the PoserSupport.exe. I just noticed that extra Face Room files are being loaded for figures that don't exist as part of the Poser Content. Figures like Miki, Miki3, Tyler, Koji, Kevin, etc. head morphs are included in Poser. But where are the figures? I started a thread to see if anyone can provide me a direct answer.

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 10 June 2020 at 11:56 PM

Yes, I noticed your other thread, and thought it odd that they would do that. For me it's not such a big deal, as I've never used the Face Room, and doubt I ever will in the future. There are those who do use it, so having the full character files would definitely make sense.

I updated with the latest MS Windows and the latest Poser Pro 11 as of this time, and I did receive warings by Windows when trying to install the Poser updates, but I went ahead anyway. No issues.

Okay I got the update notice, and downloaded the files, and got the warning notices, which make me afraid to install them. I need more of a warm fuzzy before I do. I have windows version 10.0.18363 build 18363. what version were those that at had successful install?

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 12 June 2020 at 10:04 PM

Successful install with build 18362.9. You really have nothing to worry about updating your Poser app.

had no trouble with the 11.3.818 update just now. But I am in Win 7 64bit. I already know I will hate and despise being forced to run WIN10 on the new build I'll be working up next week. Being FORCED to update grates against everything GOOD about Life. I plan on loving 8 cores, 16 threads, 3 to 4 gHz and 32 gb DDR4 RAM though! :)

11.3.818 installed this morning. Windows did give me the message about potentially harmful files, went ahead, Avast flagged them, ran a scan, Avast said 'oh sorry, false alarm, they are good'.

The short answer is, if you are paranoid, run your virus scan on the exes after you download, and make sure your download is into an external drive or sandbox drive. Done.

I do that with ALL files I download, even those not .exe files.

Hey that's just being smart, folks! I have 6 SSD's, the boot is C: and never sees the online stuff, downloads, etc. I live on drive F: actually! LOL! The regular storage drive is E:. Downloads go to F:ArcsDownloads. And I sort things from there. Easy!

Hm.. Just checking, and the 11.3.818 also crashed on EXIT. Not at all while IN the program, just after exiting. Few seconds later I get the error dialog "Poser.exe has crashed, close the program?" Yes you idiot box, yes! wow, that's what we used to call TV's! Idiot Box. LOL! And yep I am using DSON.

All those Figures came with earlier versions of Poser. Starting with Poser 6 and Miki. Then Poser 7 and a bit later Poser Pro (7.0.4) with Miki 2 then 3, Tyler, etc. Yes all came with earlier versions, and I have all those and more. Lots more, in fact! I'll check the Head Room...we need a MAX! Max Headroom! LOL!

It's generally advised to disable your Anti Virus software while installing many of our programs. Including Poser. The last thing I want to have to do is dig Poser out of that blasted ProgramData (Windows DEFENDER puts things there!). Unfortunately, there is no way Ive found to suspend DEFENDER manually. Hints?? Win 7 Pro x64.

I don't know what to tell you. Poser has been ern the most stable program on my computer with all updates through the years. When it crashes, I always know exactly what I did wrong to crash it, and updates went smoothly for over 10 years now.

McGrandpa ( ) posted Sat, 13 June 2020 at 4:19 PM

Its an issue from last update. It isn't that big a deal, as its only after I am done and have closed the program, THEN is when it crashes. According to Jenn, it's a thing that occurs when DSON is installed. And I do have DSON installed, still.
