Subject: Cannot find FBX originXYZ parameter dials ?

NikKelly ( ) posted Wed, 17 June 2020 at 11:34 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 5:12 AM

I converted an XPS 'box' prop to FBX, imported it to PP_11.3 at ~2500%. Came in as three props-- case, lid and 'details'. I reset their default -90º to flip upright, set each X= -3.5 to place set at ground zero. To get the lid to hinge correctly, I now needed to reset its originXYZ to back edge of case.

Easy-peasy: Turn on 'Display origin' in properties, adjust originXYZ dials until lid's rotation looks correct...

Um, what origin dials ??

Plan_B is convert / import the model as OBJ/MTL, ~50% figure. (All one mesh, no separate lid to twirl...)

THIS has those 'Other' six parameter dials. So, what's going on ??

I'm not too familiar with FBX imports but did you try 'show hidden parameters'?, it's a checkbox you can access by clicking the little white right pointing arrow on the parameters palette. To the right of Props name.

Also you might have better results changing an objects origin if it's at default scale. That is, the scale has not been adjusted within scene in parameters.

Hi ! Yes, I did request 'show hidden parameters'. Nothing there. Also, after I've got the FBX visible by iterating x10 between ~0.1 and 5000% from default 100%, then a few trial zooms to establish a realistic import scaling, I delete the zoomed version, re-import 'clean' at that scaling...

Really, really would like OBJ-style 'scale to %_figure' option for FBX import...

FWIW, some FBX do have those dials available. Of course, some of them have no materials for their sub-objects, so are invisible & intangible...

You could always use an external modeler that supports FBX (Blender, etc) and make your object conversions there, scaling against a poser character model import. Would save you fussing with Poser's tools, not quite as dedicated to these kind of tasks, for such things. Then you would have a Poser friendly import from the get go.

Hi, #EldritchCellar !

Sadly, Blender's default UI, like GIMP's, gives me a prompt migraine. I'm told there are 'much more ergonomic' Blender UI templates than the grim-dark with its illegible micro-icons and menus...

However, I found a workaround for this FBX case. I exported the individual parts --case, lid, twiddles-- from Poser as separate OBJ/MTL files. Edited latter in Notepad. Deleted FBX parts from scene. Imported the three OBJs. Now they had originXYZ dials. Some iteration later, I'd aligned the lid's origin with the hinge line. Grouped set, saved group... When I'm feeling brave, I may re-do using a 'master parameter' dial for group to duplicate the lid's X-rotation dial. Perhaps set limits, too ??

Ah, I will have to re-do, as the lid went missing when group saved to library...

Thank you for your input-- Much appreciated for 'morale support'.

ps: I've a related FBX enquiry running over at TurboCAD's forum, as their top 2019~2020 versions support FBX I/O. Extent, as yet, a tad un-clear. If I/O sufficiently robust, I may upgrade from my TC_16_ProPlat...
