Welcome to the Poser Forums! Need help with these versions, advice on upgrading? Etc...you've arrived at the right place!

FireFly? You plugged an Image into Translucence_Color which is not how that channel works. You need to use a Diffuse node. As it is, you just emit the image color directly onto the surface - it glows.
I wrote an extensive tutorial on this but SM deleted it and Rendo didn't bother to save anything.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Honestly, you should write a book about your shader tutorials. This is a real misery how much valuable information get lost over the years. I am the first in the line who will buy a copy. I am sure it will sell like fresh croissants.

Well as I mentioned there were experiments with NOTHING plugged in but the Bump, Diffuse and Transparency and I was still getting that glow!

OK, to specify .... the render was from Firefly. The Superfly renders out fine with no halo effect against a transparent background!
Here is a Superfly render and Firefly render, both with the settings you see below!

@RamWolf you know you can have two sets of mats in one mat zone? That is what the check box is for on the root. You can have a FF mat shader tree and a SF mat shader tree and as long as the FF is checked for the FF and the SF is checked for the SF then they will both work when rendering with each render engine.

based on the shader you are showing, there are 2 potential problems. 1 the translucence is set. That can cause glowing. 2 the specular is not black but very dark gray. I copied the image at took it into psp and took a color sample rather than eyeball it. That might be just the site's compression, but I'd double check it.

I use Poser 13 and win 10
You still have the translucence turned on with a non-black color - doesn't matter if nothing is plugged in. The color chip is on. It glows.

Is there a bug with the transparency in Poser 12? Seems that even removing EVERY thing that makes hair shiny I still end up with a weird gray halo when put on a black or dark background. Don't remember this being an issue before!
Here I have turned off most of the layers on the hair prop except 3 layers, Scalp and to Curl layers. This is what I get in the below render. I've also included my settings as well!
I've been playing around endlessly to try to squash this but I can't seem to get there. These settings have a very dark glossy map so it's not like allot of light is going to reflect off of the hair, should be more strandy bright bits but instead it's sort of dull but then that halo effect is not attractive!
Keep in mind, I've tried these settings without ANY specular plugged in to no avail!
