In the simple tab of the material room  there are  copy material and paste material. That is what I would like to have keyboard shortcuts for.

Nope, there are no shortcuts for the Material Room simple tab.  Only the advanced tab gives you some control with the contextual menu but again no shortcuts.

'Apply to all' will paste all selected nodes across all materials, including connections. It will leave pre existing nodes intact, detached if applicable.

To delete unattached nodes utilize the Remove Detached Nodes Wacro or select specific nodes: right click: Delete

Shift Clicking Remove Detached Nodes Wacro will remove all detached across all materials of the object

Correct. There is no way to copy and paste in the simple tab, as there is no way to select in simple tab.
