Thank you!!!In render settings put a check on "Remove backfacing polys". On the object properties select "Force Hide Backfacing Polys". Only works for FF.
NATURALLY I was trying to overcomplicate things!
It actually even worked in my test piece with "Obey Figure Setting" instead of "Force Hide Backfacing Polys," too.
Thanks again! It was so much simpler than I feared it would be!

Hello! This might be a weird question, and my search-fu is again weak today, but is it possible to create a surface such that a polygon has its normal texture when the camera is facing from the normal side, but is invisible when the camera is viewing from the antinormal side?
I'm trying to model a fantasy dungeon/cavern scene, and I'd like to have the cave roof (a dome, basically) where I can position the camera outside and see the inside of the "back" wall of the dome with the figures, etc. in front of it inside the cave, while the backsides of the polygons are invisible -- then render everything over a "dirt" or "rock" background for kind of an "X-Ray Vision" effect looking into the cave.
I can make the "outside" of the dome invisible in preview, as well as the back faces of the "inside" polygons, but when I render, those inside polygons still render....
(I hope that's a little clearer than mud....)
Thanks!
