Hey Jimmi, nice to meet you and welcome to the forum. We've been trying to run a bi-monthly contest, two differing subjects with the winner from Advanced and Beginner Category. This subject currently being ended is the anything spring contest. There is a post about the contests in the earlier forum messages. Join in, have fun, and welcome. Syyd PS tell us a bit about your course!
Hello Jimmi, Here is what I dug up using the search for contest in this forum. I hope this helps. Jack, I spoke with Tammy at RR about how to set up the contest. Any input here would be greatly appreciated. We thought what would be maybe a good idea is to post here first, narrow it down once all the entries are in, and post the entries on the front page for a voting poll by all RR members, giving the photography forum and its talent a chance to be seen by the entire community as well. If this is not agreeable, I can only think for us, here in the forum to vote first, and then send that group to the front page. So post away, and for all who read this I think maybe just to caption the image as: March Contest: Industrial (level)or something like this. As I mentioned before, we are working on getting sponsors, so please, all, to your benefit, beginner or advanced, we could really develop this into something special and worthwhile, so dont be shy, dont be concerned over your level of expertise or not, just enjoy yourselves, and begin. Syyd and I have been giving this some thought, and would like to make a comment (OK it's really a suggestion, but because I am still new to the forum, I want to make sure that I am not offending anyone). From the images I have seen, the people posting here appear to have wide range of experience and skills. Because of this, I think it would be unfair to have everyone being judged by the same criteria. I think it might be wise to consider splitting the jugding into two categories. Category One would be for people with intermediate to advanced skills. Category Two Would be for Beggining to Intermediate skills. The choice of which category one enters their work into would be up to the individual. Overall, I think this might be less intimidating to some, and actually work to level the playing field for all. However, this is just a suggestion and I am just one person who may have it all wrong anyway. Alpha101 Great idea, now why didnt I think of that ;-)? Or do art like you do LOL????? Okay I am going to post this as an addendum above, (last time I wrote "see Below", to find out we move up, instead of down Syyd Syyd, I like the idea of the our group doing the voting, and then presenting the results. I say this for three reasons. First, by limiting the voting to our group, we can be relatively sure this does not turn into a popularity contest as you mentioned in an earlier post. Second, by keeping the voting limited to members of the forum, we are providing greater impetus for others to join the photography forum. Third, if you view the images listed under photography art gallery "Whats Hot" the number one photo is actually a poser file. In addition, the majority of the images there seem to be viewed and rated on sexual content or inuendo rather than their artistic qualities. All of this is just an opinion that I am putting out to all of you as food for thought. Alpha101 So to recap. You post to one of two groups. Beginner or Intermediate-advanced. Then you vote when it's voting time. The voting is limited to the forum members. Then Syyd posts the results. I may have missed something. If so would someone please fill in the spaces. Bsteph
