Subject: iMac M1 less than desirable rendering speeds. Advice requested

I've just purchased an iMac with the new M1 chip, 16GB RAM and I'm running both Poser 11 and 12. My render times have not really improved that much as compared to my 10 year old iMac 27" (RIP). The vast majority of renders end with my iMac's fans kicking in, that's something that rarely happened with my old computer. It feels like both versions of Poser stress my new computer out. Is there anything I can do, say in Poser's preference panel, that would help reduce render times and not stress out my computer?

I would probably be useful if you could post your usual render settings, so people can initially tell if there might be any roadblocks there.
