Subject: Saving Body Morphs does not work as expected...

blackbonner ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2023 at 12:30 PM · edited Wed, 01 January 2025 at 3:28 AM

Hi fellow Poser User.

I'm currendly working on some Body Morphs for LaFemme.
They are tested, named and grouped in a seperat group and I want to save them in a Runtime as a Morph Injection Package.

I have run this several times now, in different constallations, but everytime I inject the morph Pack back into a LaFemme Figure, one or more morphs are not shown as part of the package, instead they showing up in a seperat group called morph.
I would like to add this pack to my freestuff section here on Renderosity but first I have to fix this bug, so, every piece of advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Happy New Year and Greetings from Germany.

Usually when you create a new morph it shows up in the Body actor, in the Morph category, automatically. You'll need to drag and drop it into the parameter dials folder that you want it to "live" in BEFORE you save your injection pose.

Individual body part morphs often don't get arranged the same as those in the Body actor.  Whether or not you want to arrange all of those the same, or just keep them as they are, is up to you. I think most people use them from the Body actor (for body morphs) or from the Head actor (for face morphs) anyway.

@DCArt

That's correct. The morphs I created are located in the chest. The pack contains 12 morphs. I saved them via file-export-morph injection.

In the following pop-up window I choose all the morphs I created and saved them into a separate runtime.

Now I load a new figure and apply the morph pack.

The majority of the morphs are showing correctly in the saved group, only some are misplaced and showing in a separate group called morphs.

I will now save all morphs individually and see if that works as expected.

If it's the chest morphs that are being saved in Morphs, just create a folder structure in the Chest actor that is similar to the one in the Body actor. Then drag and drop your chest morph from the Morphs category to the desired place in the Chest actor. That should do it.

But even if you only created a morph in the Chest actor, you can import it as a full body morph and it should only affect the chest even though the dial is in the BODY actor.

Hi DCArt, here are some Pictures to explain the dilemma.
Like I wrote initially, I saved all Morphs at once via File-Export-Morph Injektion into a Folder in a Runtime that only used for development of LaFemme Stuff.
As you can see in the Pictures 1 and 2, there is only the LaFemme Figure without any Morphs whatsoever.

If I injecet the Morph Package, this happens... and I can't figure out why.

Hope the clears things up...because my english is not as good, so there could be some misunderstanding on what the problem actually is.

Thanks and happy rendering.

In that last screen shot, you are showing the morphs in the chest. Most of them are appearing in a subgroup named BB-Breast Shapes for LaFemme. With the exception of that one Breast Size Morph 1 that you show in the Morph category.

Drag the Breast Size 1 morph from the Morph folder into your BB-Breast Shapes for LaFemme folder, and place it just above Breast Size 2 so that it's in the correct order. Save your project so you don't have to repeat this again.

Now choose File > Export > Morph Injection. Click the Select None button to deselect everything, and then go through the Body actor first to select all of your FBM morphs. This should automatically check the dependency morphs in each body part, should they exist.

Then scroll down the list, and select any morphs in the Chest actor that aren't already checked. Hopefully this will pick up your chest morph and put it in the right place.

If you still have trouble, post some screen caps of the "Select Objects" dialog that appears when you are selecting the morphs to export. Both the BODY actor and the CHEST actor.

Thanks DCArt!

That's sadly not the point. I placed all the morphs in the very  group BB-Breast Shapes from the beginning. That is exactly why I don't understand why at least one of the morphs jumps in the wrong group.

To illustrate my workflow I will post the whole thing with pictures tomorrow. Maybe I did something wrong and don't see it.

My only other guess is that the chest morph you are trying to import affects more than one body group. Yes, posting the complete process might help. Otherwise I'm stumped.

Here we go again.
I have installed all 30 morphs once again, made a fresh morph injection file out of them and guess what... You don't have to guess, I will show you.

I manually had to move every morph into the group I created at the start...

Just to make sure, I checked the morph injection list, in case one would like to correct the error manually and save the file again....out of the sudden a new entry is there.

That's my fived attemt to build this morph injection file, I even took the long path and saved every morph individually. As the result, the morphs were all over the place.
I'm certain, the morphs are not interfere with other bodyparts because I only worked with the chest area geometrie.
I also checked the pz2 files with an text editor, all morphs are placed in the group I created.
Maybe I forgot something, maybe I have to throw a shovle of salt behind my back or wish upone a star during the creation of the injection morph file, I don't know!

There is something wrong, but I don't know what. So folks, I hope someone knows and tells me what's wrong.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2023 at 7:45 AM

Would it be possible for you to send me the OBJ file for that specific morph?  Do you have dropbox or some other file sharing service that you can put it on?

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2023 at 8:00 AM · edited Sun, 08 January 2023 at 8:00 AM

Actually here's something else you can do.

Click the Right Arrow next to that morph that isn't working right.

Choose Edit > Delete Morph. DO NOT actually delete it, I just want to see what groups the morph dials show up in.  Take a screen cap of that.

Take, for example, one of the breast morphs that is made for La Femme. The main Breasts Height dial is in the body, but the morph itself affects both the abdomen and the chest. So what I'm trying to find out is whether or not that Breast Size 1 morph is actually affecitng more than one body part, and that might be the reason it's loading into the "Morph" category.

I don't think it's anything you are doing wrong, I think it's something in that specific morph OBJ that is causing this. The morph dial doesn't show any master parameter dial indicating that there is another body part being affected, but that may be because you are loading the morph into the chest.  This is why I wanted to see if it shows up in any other body part. So, continuing from above, if Breast Morph 1 DOES appear in more than one group, what you can do is UNCHECK only the one listed under the chest. That will delete the morph in any other groups it appears in, and only leave it in the chest. THEN move it into your morph group, resave again, and see if THAT makes a difference.

I have to be honest. I've made tons of morphs and stuff and have never seen this, it's a puzzle.

First time I use Dropbox. To make things easy the file containes the whole runtime with all 30 obj files.
Feel free to use them if you like them, they were meant to be freestuff anyways.
I have noticed some minor differences between Poser installations when the OS is a none-english version.
I'm working on Win 10 Pro and the system language is german.
In Poser 11 there was this Move Path tool for terrain or stairs, do you remember?
I had to switch my system language and my keyboard layout to english in order to use this feature.
So I'm used to some kind of Poser showing strange behavior on my computer.

Let me know, if the download was successful.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2023 at 9:13 AM

Thanks I got it OK. Will check this out and see what I can figure out.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 08 January 2023 at 9:22 AM · edited Sun, 08 January 2023 at 9:26 AM

OK. First thing I noticed is that there is a SPACE at the end of that Breast Size 1 morph (between the one and the .obj). In other words, it's named Breast Size 1 .obj instead of Breast Size 1.obj.

Remove that space. Then load the morph into the chest actor and drag and drop it into your custom folder.

That did the trick for me, hopefully that will work for you.

Another thing I might suggest is to precede your morph names with BB- or something that will make the morph names unique. Reason being, if someone else creates a morph named Breast Size 1, it will OVERWRITE your version when injected. I'm also not sure about using ampersands in the filenames. It might be best to use Breast Facing Up-Down rather than Breast Facing Up & Down, for example.

Thanks for the advice. I will do as you told and post the result here. A simple space at the wrong place....can you here that boom noise? It's my head colliding with my desk.

LOL glad I could help

If it's any consolation, everyone learned something from this. So it's all good 8-)

blackbonner ( ) posted Mon, 09 January 2023 at 5:10 AM

Thank's @DCArt!

I re-named and installed the morphs properly, saved them as a single Morph Injection and...BINGO, it worked!

Way to go! Congrats!
