does anybody know a good tutorial for doing this type of thing? Im going to try this for Si-Fi type of stuff. Space things etc.

I know there are several add-on tools that can be used to to randomize mesh most are paid add-ons not sure if this tutorial might be what your looking for but might set you on the right path it is by Daniel Grove who has a very useful YouTube channel where he covers many topic related to Blender  How to kitbash like a pro in Blender! I hope this helps
