Subject: "This warning has been noted in your member record"

This is the final sentence in a message I received from an admin, alerting me that an A.I. generated image was deleted.

As a member of Renderosity since 2001, I must say I was taken aback by the harsh tone of the message. It left me with the impression that I was not part of a community, but rather that I was just an account, and that discretions were being noted in my personal, permanent record. Like someone has a file on me. I was in touch with another member, who was also given the same message, and who had the same WTF reaction.

It certainly create a pall over the notion that, as noted in the About" section, "The Renderosity community is made up of members who have a passion for helping others learn, share and grow in digital art. The participation and interaction among members has slowly built a family and a place known as a "home."

All of a sudden, this place doesn't feel like a home.

Am I over-reacting?

It is normal to track anything an admin or mod does regarding your account to your user name. That is how I take "noted in your record".

It was done that way at basically every forum I ever ran or worked for. But in varying ways.

I see no reason for it to be any different here and I never mod'ed here to know the exact procedure.

I have gotten the same oddly worded messages related of things when they changed policy and went on a deletion run.

I would not let it bother you, they have rules they have to abide by... Take it with a grain of salt...

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I agree and appreciate what you said, up to a point.   My beef is with the tone and perhaps inadvertent heavy-handed message. There is a way to communicate with members with a dignified and respectful manner. If the admins are asked to use a cold template, fine,  but fix the template, because you and I and others are reacting the same way, to the extent that we have to "take it with a grain of salt".  I hate these intimidating notices from management.  This is not how a respectful and engaging "community" deals with its members. - BTW - in the post that was deleted, I followed the new policy and included a long and well-reasoned plea  to the moderator as to why the post should be accepted, as recommended in the new policy. The notice I received gave no acknowledgment or even mentioned my note to the moderator. It was just summarily deleted with a harsh note telling me that this incident will now be noted in my "record".

I may not have been a template response, and it could very well be that the person that contacted you doesn't speak English as their primary language.

I have had things deleted to, and I just shrugged it off. It isn't worth getting upset about it.

In the end, I am just a passenger on the same ship you are on. And we can agree to disagree, and continue on our journey...
