What other programs working in the background are utilizing your resources? Run Task Manager and determine the RAM usage on a program-to-program basis. Sometimes this type of error might indicate something else is going on and may not be a RAM issue. We don't know what types of programs you have installed on your system and how they may impact Photoshop.
Oh bless, thanks for the replies . hborre - I'll look into the Ram usage. I really don't have many programs on it.. Bryce- Daz, Photoshop and Alias, (artwork) Netflix, Spotify, Prime video - entertainment, Softmaker (instead of office 365). That's what I have. I don't keep much on. Most of my work is done on the laptop, then shifted to an external hard drive once done.. and a cc cleaner sweep done after each one. I'll check the usage of Ram on a program to program basis.
Really- I've worked on a 7 gig file, and have not had probs before. Maybe, as you said..something is running and I don't know it. I tried downsizing it..removed all layers, except the snowing layers I was working on..ie..noise, and then using the crystalizing filter. Still teh same.
Will give it a try and then get back.
RHaseltine..I save it uncompressed. Always.

Hi
Sorry for the bother but am having a nightmare. Working on an image : File size 2.2 gigs and am just 1/4 way done.
Issue 1.. I've had problems before with saving files over 4 gigs..why does that happen? Now, it says I can't save anything above 2 gb..that I have to save it as a psb instead of a tiff?
Issue 2: It also now tells me that it cannot do anything..like use the pixelate filter as I do not have enough RAM. Huh??? I've attached screen shots here so you can see how much RAM etc I have. Oh..I've reduced the RAM usage bit to 70%
Help please. I've restarted the computer, done a cleanup etc... and I still get this. I've purged etc. I have had no problem with a 7 GB file before (except for having to break it in bits as different files because of the file size.
Oh..I'm using Windows 11 on a Surface Pro 8. Everything is on auto update..from Photoshop to Windows etc..so everything is the latest version. I also have more than 130 Gigs free space on my surface pro..
Many thanks in advance. Am in Asia for a few months, so there may be a couple of hours before I can reply.
Cheers
R
PS- It's been years since I've been on Renderosity. It feels good to back
