I want to be able to circle items in screenshot to show what I need to know. How do I?

You need to open your screencap image in an editing program.  Offhand, I don't know what programs are available for a MAC, but someone else should come along and give you some suggestions.

Using Flameshot, available for most platforms, if I understood correctly your question. Free of course.
