I fished this one out of a plate left on the deck that had filled with water. As he dried off I started snapping pix, only to find that he was staring right back at me.

Wonderful dragonfly. I just love them--have seen some zooming over our pond but it needs to get a bit warmer and stay there for awhile. The detail of his wings is terrific. diane

Absolutely beautiful shot.

Is this the original pic or have you cropped it? Pic is really good and sharp, but edges are bit tight. Really great shoot still. .n

Syyd ( ) posted Wed, 30 May 2001 at 7:13 AM

oh thats amazing, he was staring at you staring at him through a camera lens, great shot.

Dendras ( ) posted Wed, 30 May 2001 at 8:36 AM

Thank you all for your very kind comments. Antoonio: I cropped the edges; I took this shot with an Agfa E1680 digital camera (I am a total amateur, BTW) and the macro lens leaves a black and round border on each shot. Syyd: After I fished him out of the water (veterinary instincts too strong to ignore) I got the impression that he was looking at me trying to figure out just what the hell heppened. The cool thing about it all was the interaction between two species that normally have little to do with each other. But I babble. Thank you all again. --Dendras

Here ya go....

That is soooooo amazing....I am sitting here staring. One year at easter, I got up and this huge beautiful dragonfly or so I thought it was with blues and purplish color, flew out of some flowers I got, and smacked me in the forehead. I never screamed so loud in my life, and the thing died on impact. I gave it to the science museum, they said it was a south american variety.

My opinion is, that the original is way much better, those black areas does not disturb at all, gives more personal look for this piece. Great shot. And Syyd, stop disturbing those poor creatures, I tell ya. .n

The poor thing he hit my forehead and croaked. Can you imagine, what its like to get smacked in the head at 7 am, by a giant buzzing thing???????
