Even better is the full upgrade/sidegrade pricelist: $99 only for the Carrara 1 users! $149 only for the Ray Dream users! $149 only for the Infini-D users! $199 only for the Amapi 3D users! Please don't ban me neither! :-)

Looks like someone finally bought Carrara.

I mean a company bought the license, not a person bought a copy :) Carrara has been on the Metacreations site listed as 'for sale' for ages.

As far as I know, Carrara has been in posession of one Adobe for over a year for no known reason. It was a lot of fun to go to the "A" stall on any main European computer fair, walk straight to the information desk, smile at the nice (mainly female) folks behind the counter and to say just one single word: "Carrara". The skin colour of their faces turned immediately from pastel pink into dark red, little flecks of steam started to vanish out of their ears, and the only audible sound of human language recognizable thereafter was a barking choir desparately shouting for the security men in order to remove you from their precious stall space. I only overdo this very slightly... I tried it out three times, and it never failed! :-) Eovia has finally got hold of the rights months ago, but until now there was only an announcement that they "try to get it back into shops soon". Now we know that they did a lot more - and that is very good news.

I believe you're referring to Canoma rather than Carrara under Adobe's wing.

They made a huge announcement that they bought both, but refused to give any further statement. About a year ago, they made a new press release that "although they have obtained the rights, the technical business has not yet been transferred" so that existing Carrara owners should please stop calling and refer to MetaCreations (sic !!!) instead. I have no idea what happened to Canoma - probably the same - it belongs to Adobe, but they have no f****** interest into it any longer, and if it doesn't work then please call someone else...

Does anyone know if there's a difference in functionality between MetaCreation's Carrara 1.0 verses Eovia's Carrara Studio 1.1? Everything looks the same but the fact the on Eovia's version, you can't use the "Physics Animation Plug-in" because they haven't been able to license it yet.

The functionality of Carrara 1.1 and Carrara Studio 1.1 is the same ( there is a free upgrade from 1.01 to 1.1 ). The "Studio" part refers to a package of plugins, a copy of Amapi 5.15, and a printed manual. Amapi features NURBS modeling and exports an RDS 5 format which will import into Carrara. The 1.01 to 1.1 upgrade covers a long list of defect repairs. There is an Amapi 6.0 - which includes a vertex modeler and there is a bug fix upgrade for it in process, but it seems to be hanging fire at present. So the "Studio" offers the option of NURBS modeling while trying to get more customers for the Amapi upgrade path.
