Trying to create an Aurora Borealis (sp?) effect in the sky.. Just can't seem to get anything with cloud layers.. Any hints from the Vue gurus? =) Chris

I understand "Aurora"...but what's "Borealis"?

Shadex0r ( ) posted Tue, 03 July 2001 at 9:42 PM

Northern lights ?

One of the preset atmoshperes has something similar I think. Maybe you could look at that and see how it was done? Hope this helps. Rich

Borealis: from the word, "boreal" which simply means, "northern" So Aurora Borealis means "Northern Lights". The Southern Lights are called the "Aurora Australis" for obvious reasons. :) -SMT

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Giant shperes with volumetric materials assigned to them. I probably would tone it down if I took some time at it. Does this help? -SMT

I tell you smallspace, you're quite the lad with these effects... :) Great knowledge of the program...

wow. but why volumetric for them? why not just glowing colours? oh, to get the um.... yeah, the intensity variants? so can you show a pic of the sphere/camera placement and relations? is the camera in the spheres? outside? how really really big are they? :)

That's pretty close to what I was looking for, thx smallspace!! Chris

blooodsong: (hey, there's that missing "o") You've got the idea about the volumetrics. I didn't save the scene so I can't show you the exact screen shot, but the spheres are really, really big, and sitting off the edge of the ground plane. The camera is in the middle of the ground plane. I used the volumetric material, "Green Fuzz", scaled it up 100X's, and gave each sphere a different base color. Actually, pretty simple :) -SMT
