THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Does Bryce 5 have radiosity?

I heard somewhere that Bryce 5 had radiosity like TrueSpace, is this true? Does the light lab provides this? Is it true that trees do the rendering what Volumetric world does to B4 and B3, slow it down to a crawl? I have B3 and it can not import obj models with the textures intact, you have to do it manually, I think B4 does automatically, what about B5? Thanks, Andres.

Bryce 5 does not have radiosity. It has True ambience which can be used to simulate radiosity, but no it does not contain a radiosity solution engine. It appears the upgrade version of Bryce 5 is on hold, Looks like everyone has the full version in stock. Maybe Corel is holding up the upgrade version to fix the serial number issue. If so then my hats off to them

No trees do not slow B5 down to crawl in a scene. Some of us have made images with up to 400 trees in a scene, it renders quite speedily.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Thanks for your answers. How does true ambiance compares with radiosity, I have read that radiosity is a beautiful thing but also quite slow. Clay I love your artwork, do you have the image of the 400 trees up somewhre in the net? Does B5 imports obj with textures attached? Andres.

Bryce 4 is supposed to be able to import OBJ files with textures, if the textures are in the computer somewhere, however Bryce screws up loading the textures big time... I donno why.... oh well, I hope Bryce 5 fixed this problem, it's one of the only things that is preventing me to use Poser models in Bryce, dispite all the tutorials that doesn't help. :(

Warder, that seems to be a problem that you are experiencing (saw your post elsewhere). I spent most of last night importing OBJ files into Bryce and slapping textures on them. :-) Tom D

Warder which tutorials are you following? Poser 4 characters import with very little work. Vickey and mike require a little more work but import fine for me too. Post your experiances I am sure we can help. Goido Radiosity can produce some highly realistic renders. Even then some radiosity is better then others. I do not know first hand how easy it is to reproduce radiosity with true ambience. I do know to fake radiosity you have to know or be able to visualize how light would bounce around in a scene. Objects pick up colors from nearby objects but at a different level depending on the actual material and color of the object. Faking a radiosity look is not hard (it will increase render times though) Faking accurate radiosity is very hard and requires a great amount of time.
