Subject: Bumb Maps

This is a very newbie question I know, but I'm having trouble with the bumb maps (I think). I have them loaded and all but is the change so subtle it's hard to see? Also, do I have to apply it to every item on P4? i.e. lips, eyebrow, lashes, etc.? Even a link to a tutorial would help a bunch. Thanks! - The Gerbil (a.k.a McFly)

Make sure you have "Texture changes apply to entire figure" checked when your in the Materials window. I got confused by that one a few times.

It depends. If you only want a bump lets say on the lips then dont have the Texture Changes Apply to Entire Figure Checked when you select the Bump map for the lips. You can take the T-Map for the Vicky head. Clear everything off of it except the lips. Use a paint program to make the bump on the lips section and save the file as something like LipBump. Then apply that file as the bump for the lips only. Also, Lighting has a lot to do with how the bump comes out. If you have lighting thats very bright and direct on the figure you may not see the bump as well. Try moving the lights to the side of the figure so it shines across it relative to your camera angle and you should see the bump better. Also, make sure you have the bump intensity turned up to 80-100% for max effect. Clint

Thanks everyone. By the way, do you know where I can get some good eyelash textures/trans? Thanks again.

For what model? P4 Standard or Vicky? Clint

Perhaps you only see a difference when you render, not just in the display window.

Bumps only display in a rendered image. Clint

To get an increased bump effect, turn the pic you want to use into a grayscale, tweak the contrast and brightness up to your liking and use an emboss filter on it. TMG

TMGraphics is on track for better BUMP Maps. There is some good tutorials that I found to explain how to make much better bumps than the simple convertion Poser matterial lab creats. You also have better control when you prepair a grey scale, I'm just learning these techniques myself and they DO make a world of difference!
