Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 12:36 pm)
All I can suggest is that next time you "save as" instead of just "save", that way you can save "seperate" files all the ways along, (changing the name or numbering them so they will save as a different file), instead of just "one" in case this happens so you can go back to at least a prior save. Takes up a lot of room but this can be temporary till your finished and then once your done you can delete all your composites.
mine reboots when: 1. memory chips are bad 2. memory slot goes bad 3. motherboard is getting ready to go bad...(after it is bad it is lights out) my experience is that poser just hangs up, freezes when it is confused....sometimes it is me that is confused, Poser is just taking more time than usual for its project...but I have not had poser shut the machine and re-boot before..that sounds like a hardware problem...
Hi Folks! Black, your proble may well be related to hardware or a viral/trojan attack. I Hope you find the cause and fix it. Here's some simple advice I pass on to my students that many of us pros and prosumers have learned the hard way: always make duplicate files of your favorite Poser projects. Save a duplicate on your hard drive and at least one other copy on a storage medium like Zip disk or CD. I never work on an original Poser file. I always open a duplicate. At the end of each work sesion, I save the revised copy so that it becomes the new original. Then I make new duplicates. You probably already know all this. But if not, I hope it helps prevent an irreparable losss next time. Peter (Dr Zik)
Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm using Windows ME (I hate it by the way) and have been having other troubles lately with impromptu restarts and such. I had a new, but bad, memory chip in for awhile which caused everything to crash so I recently reinstalled everything (after a reformat of my hard drive.) Let's just say that my computer system is a WIP. Thanks again for your suggestions and a place to vent.

Anyone else had this happen...? I'm working on an animation for a couple of hours and I've been saving it as I go. After a while, I decide to call it quits for a while and hit save again. Suddenly the screen goes blank and the computer reboots! After it reboots, the file I was working on has nothing in it! The file exists, but its only about 16kb large with no figures, no lights, no nothin'! Needless to say, I'm just a tad perturbed. Have a nice day... grrrrrrrrr!
