Subject: What the hell is going on!

Marshmallowpie ( ) posted Mon, 30 July 2001 at 7:15 AM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 2:07 PM

I just visited the Photography gallery again after about a week, and what has happened in there??? I know a lot of other RS members don't take it very seriously but sheesh. What's with all that? Looks to me like people are using it as some sort of private photo album to be shared with a few interested people, and not a public art gallery. Really- what CAN we do to be taken more seriously??? If ya wanna post bad webcam shots of yourself and your girlfriend do it in the members gallery for god's sake! :-) I have been patient with people doing those sorts of things because I have hoped that maybe them posting something there will bring them to the gallery and maybe make them a bit interested in what other stuff that is to be found there. But I think I was just being a bit naive. Now - this isn't meant as the start of a discussion about what's art and what's not. What I'm saying is it's a public gallery, and should be used as one.

The members gallery? Wait I missed the nudie guy and gal pic! Actually I took a look it didn't seem so bad to me. You're stressin!! A couple of them were interesting. Particurly the lady holding the heard rendered in pastel and a solarized version. I also liked the darth vader pictures. Nothing seemed to be tasteless and everyone tried to make an interesting photo. As I recal you got a laugh from the madmanxxx pictures also. One question. What would you perfer to see in the gallery? Raw photos or manipulated pictures. Bsteph

Both!! I would just like the gallery to be respected a bit more from other parts of RS, I am tired of hearing that photography doesn't belong here on Renderosity, which believe me I have heard many times in the chatroom. I know you get all kinds of work in all the galleries...high and low quality. BUT it would be nice if the people who posted things in the photo gallery would actually take some time to check out what's really going on there :o) Yeah well maybe I am stressing, but doesn't anybody care?

Yeah, I know. I am just of a perfectionist nature I guess - it is hard for me to be happy with what I have when I keep seeing so many things that need improvement. I do enjoy it here, of course I do, but well, it would have been nice if the gallery was of a higher standard.. can't have it all I s'pose... Hokay bedtime for Marsh.

I think what's frustrating you is that whereas before there were more "higher standared" pictures and some really "lower standard" pictures now there are less higher standard ones and a bunch of medium standard pictures. As a result in general the quality has reached some medium ground. There are still some very nice photos there but you just have to look. One the positive side there seems to be less nudity! So at least the soft porn reputation may go away. However I disagree with Alpha. I believe more people frequent many area of Renderosity than we are aware of. For example I oftem forget that others who don't regurly post to the forum can look around. I received a very nice responce from somone from one of my pictures. And others could have as well. Who knows who looks in here from time to time. So in general I think more people payattention to the pictures than we think. Particurly if there's nudity. =:-) > ( I couldn't resist the joke. ) Bsteph

The Photo Gallery can be a boutique or a General Store. When there is no selection criteria you get a general store, where there is a range of material. IN time, with a small group the quality will improve and the standard will rise. In all pursuits where effort and talent count the persistent and active members set the standard. Jump in every so often and remind us that we are here to enjoy and learn by doing better work.

True. I have just lost all motivation to upload anything there. I still do, as then I can keep things in my own personal gallery for interested people to see...

I cottoned on to this a while back - some people may have noticed the lack of my pictures there for some time. If anything, the work I'm playing with at the moment is really going to be just as apt in the 2D gallery, which seems to have a more serious audience and less of a 'breast fetish'. I still maintain that any gallery that gives over 1100 hits (last time I checked) to a picture of Barbie getting it on compared to the serious stuff has got a problem... This forum, however, will remain the place where I get my tips and honest criticism, and of course to 'speak' to you guys!

But Jordi I thought you posted the Barbie and Ken picture. I thought you posted it here too. Does that mean my so called brillant idea of a reflection photo of Barbie and Ken as photographed from a mirror on the ceiling doesn't count. Bsteph

JordyArt ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 6:04 PM

LOL - Yeah, I did post the Barbie pic, and considering how many hits it's got compared to my other stuff I'm peed off. Ok, it's obviously the thumbnail that does it not the pic itself, but once again we're back to the fact that there's some fab pictures out there that don't see more than 20-30 hits. If there's over 1200 (I checked again last night - over 1200?!?) hits on one picture, then surely the better 'proper' pictures should be getting 100+ easily? But they don't, and that really gets me right here [points to heart]. BTW the only place you will be seeing my new stuff (when I've finished the series) is in the forum - I've actually had people in another part of the building at work wanting to buy some of them, and I've only done 3 reasonable ones so far(!), so they're obviously too good to show the rabble!!!! LOL

The photo gallery does see more visitors then i thought it would, but they only seem to be ones who frequent the Poser Tits galleries. Several of my pics got massive hits in a short amount of time, because there was a chick or something in them. The sucky part was, that my 3 pride and joy prints got jack all for hits, and they've been in a Toronto Art Gallery and auction (though no one bought any of them. Only one piece was sold, but the reptilian girl one had a lot of people lookin, WEEEEEEEEE!!!!). When I get new prints, I'll prolly upload them, but then again, I prolly won't. It depends on my mood. Anyways Marsh, might as well stop stressing, it ain't gonna change. Who cares though. Renderosity ain't known for its photography, which sucks (I say that everyone next month should vote for one of us to be a featured artist, it's about time someone in the forum gets some exposure), but who cares, all everyone seems to want is a chick with the following measurements: 30dd-19-25. Ry takes another swig.... mmm mmm
